Another reason that seems to keep the two together is their duty to the crown, according to the source. “They are putting on a united front in public, especially because Charles is ill, but behind the scenes it’s a very different picture,” a friend of the couple shared.
“They are divorced in everything but name,” the insider claimed. The monarch, who is still recovering from his cancer diagnosis, spends the majority of his time living at Clarence House. He divides his time between living at the London residence and at Highgrove House in Gloucestershire.
Other reports also claim that it is Camilla who prefers staying away from Charles. Insiders reveal that she has been spending most of her time at the Ray Mill House. Camilla bought the house in 1995 after she parted ways with Andrew Parker Bowles.
A source close to her shared how the house serves as a symbol of her independence and makes her feel “free from the demands of royal life.” The insider shared that Camilla’s “sense of freedom has only deepened” after she married Charles.
“They remain committed in their own way, but it’s not the kind of marriage most people would recognize,” an insider noted. They went on to add how the monarch is primarily focused on his health and responsibilities at the moment, while Camilla “prioritizes” spending time at the Ray Mill House.
“At this point, it’s the crown that binds them – not the relationship itself,” the source claimed. The source also revealed how the couple’s secretaries have had to coordinate their diaries just so the couple could spend time together.
