Having a discussion with my girlfriend (u/deefiantsk8er) from America… Do you call this a boterham or a sandwich?

3. Since Russian is my native language, I would call this a sandwich since in Russian we use the English word “sandwich” for this kind of stuff. Boterham is just a piece of bread with butter and/or ham. However, this a literal understanding of the word, nowadays there is so much variety and I would not be so pedantic about it.

16. I’m from the Mediterranean, to me it’s a sandwich but to my Belgian husband ,it’s called boterham.

20. I would actually call this a sandwich. Once you out more than 2 things on it I don’t consider it a boterham anymore.

    For belgian people this a mongolendriekhoek as mentioned above.

    Boterhammen/Bokes/Stutn are not artificial triangles like this. But fresh bread from a baker ( lol America.)

    And we typically eat at every lame office party/ big family meeting.

    It’s a boterham. As for the specific type of boterham: a mongolendriehoek.
    A sandwich is just oval brioche but different
