SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – An Episcopal priest in Sarasota has been appointed to a position with an international organization in Rome, it was announced this week.
The Rev. Charleston Wilson, rector of Church of the Redeemer, was named by the presiding bishop of The Episcopal Church to the Board of Trustees of the American Friends of the Anglican Centre.
The nonprofit Centre serves as the embassy of the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Anglican Communion to the Vatican, supporting the official ecumenical dialogue between the Anglican and Roman communions, the Church of the Redeemer said.
“I’m honored by this opportunity to begin serving with the Anglican Centre,” Wilson said. “Unity can seem out of reach, but the Centre works every day to pursue what Jesus wanted — for all Christians to act as one in witness to God’s love,” he said in a statement announcing his appointment.
Wilson traveled to Rome in late September for his first meeting at the Anglican Centre.
Church of the Redeemer is part of the Episcopal Diocese of Southwest Florida. The Episcopal Church is a member of the worldwide Anglican Communion.
