Why were they allowed on the flight if they didn’t meet the criteria for non Australian travellers?

I’m very surprised their family didn’t tell them about the requirements. I could give a bit of leeway and say that older people (and they’re not *that* old) might not be as savvy at keeping up with the requirements and didn’t realise there was no more quarantine, but I couldn’t see no one in the family being aware of the situation. I personally know two fellas living in Perth who have been watching the changing rules like hawks to see when they’ll get home. Surely these were the same about their family coming over?
So, instead of checking to see what the requirements were to enter another country, they didn’t, and got turned away. Seems pretty cut and dry. Get home, get vaxxed, and try again maybe?
How did they even get on the plane? Don’t you have to show proof of vaccination when you check in?
