It’s just a meme, I don’t want to argue or debate

  1. My wife (from a Protestant family) used to keep the big four-slice toaster out, but now that we have the space in our kitchen after a remodel, it now has its own space in the cupboard because we need the work surface for other things. Whereas I (Austrian with a Catholic upbringing, but left the church over 20 years ago) have no skin in the game and think it’s mainly a matter of pragmatic space management and (at least in our case) not a sectarian issue. My in-laws keep the toaster out, but they only have a small two-slice model that doesn’t use up much work surface in the first place.

  2. I heard this one a while ago… then I remembered my Granny’s house(fathers side) in Cork, she had all these art deco toasters, from the 50s and 60s, when one burnt out it was put on the mantelpiece, the new one was kept in the kitchen. Still, her favorite way to make toast was always on the 2 bar electric heater, browning the skewered bread with a meat fork, while the tea brewed. My own mother puts the toaster in the cupboard after breakfast.

  3. lads why the fuck would you put it in the cupboard. it’s used enough that it should be on the counter. especially in bigger households where it’s used multiple times a day.
