An Garda Síochána is aware of a trending prank circulating on social media in which a loved one is sent an Al-generated image of a home intruder.

  1. Honestly I’ve seen this a few times already and my only thoughts were how mean it is on the (older) person being pranked.

    I’m good craic though.

  2. I didn’t think of the ramifications of a prank, I just thought it was a bit icky and demeaning for homeless people. It does seem even more pathetic now. One woman in a video was saying she sped home after getting the pictures. People are so stupid to do this during a storm when everyone should have their wits about them.

  3. Bullshit, trend is only on the go this week.. guards don’t arrive for at least 3 weeks

  4. Now is a good chance for homeless people to start taking over peoples homes and the Gardai won’t believe people when they ring in.

  5. Starting to think that we’re so close to things being over altogether for social media and all the rest. Even half the crap on Reddit is bots these days

  6. Has AI generated images actually resulted in anything of merit yet?

  7. The statement is written like they ever show up , it doesn’t take much time or resources to say it’s a civil matter and not bother.

  8. Hard enough to get the Garda out to genuine calls with out these calls wasting their time.

  9. Are they that dense. If you get sent a picture of some twat sitting on your couch, would you not figure the person taking the picture would have said something. The world is effing doomed

  10. As if the Gardai are even actually turning up anywhere.

  11. Actual scumbags. They should be made to pay in cold hard currency in the form of fines for this kind of carry on. Idiots

  12. If you just ‘get’ your siblings or parent with this prank, then it’s brilliant. But if guards are being rang or people are speeding home, then it’s just stupid. A fine line

  13. I blame the people ringing the Garda not the ones doing the prank. G’jaysus.

  14. If the gardai are responding to house invasion calls from people who aren’t in said house it’s their own fault.

  15. The AI lad there is the absolute image of my Da having a nap after work, plaster covered trousers, the green fleece and woolly hat 😂.

  16. Several snackboxes have gone stone cold as a result.

  17. Hey!!! Have some respect for your local Garda they have more important things to be doing. The champions league is on for feck sake

  18. The real prank is on the people who believed the Garda actually arrived to a household after a callout.

In all seriousness though it was inevitable that someone rang the gaurds.

No one is going to try and study the pictures to make absolutely sure they’re not AI while their house is being invaded.

  19. This trend is disgustingly out of touch and dangerous, the sooner it dies the better

  20. Maybe I’m too woke but I found it interesting and a bit sad to see how different people responded to seeing ‘homeless’ people in their house. Talking about them like they’re dirty feral animals…

  21. This “trend” makes me so sad for humanity. The prank is taking a homeless person into your home and helping them and the joke is middle aged people screaming to throw them out on the street again with absolutely no regard for them as a human being. I understand it’s fake, that doesn’t make it better. You’re still demonizing a very vulnerable group of people AND laughing about it. Does anyone else recognize how fucked up this is???
