  1. Trump is crippling the entire economy while giving bailouts to his foreign far-right friends. Then he is selectively giving domestic handouts to make up for the devastation–but only to his supporters while getting blue states.

You can’t run a united country this way.

  2. Mike Johnson is sure going to be surprised when he ends up in hell.

  3. The optics of Democrats continuing to show up every day and Republicans enjoying the shutdown as a vacation is really something.

  4. >as soon as Chuck Schumer allows us to reopen the government

Sorry Johnson, but you’re the majority leader/speaker of the house. You have vastly more ability to do this than Schumer does right now.

  5. Have they still refused to swear in the new Democrat House rep?

  6. So trumps health is failing, Vought and Miller are the real power and vance is doing a media blitz to try to strengthen his hold. These people aren’t negotiating in good faith to begin with. Let them own this and hope the zombie Americans wake up to what is happening. Otherwise you just rubberstamp their fascism.

  7. Pressuring DEMS to end? MAGA made it happen. THEY should end it. for fuck’s sake at this headline.

  8. More propaganda. It’s a Republican house, senate, executive, and court. They are the government. Fuck’em, if they can’t pass a spending bill it’s on them.

  9. The Republicans have the majority in both houses of Congress, therefore *they* need to end the shutdown. The Democrats don’t have enough votes to pass anything.

  10. We know why he has cancelled the votes. They have an extra yes vote to release the Trump is a child rapist files that could potentially make things thousands of times worse for them.

  11. >“The House will come back into session and do its work as soon as Chuck Schumer allows us to reopen the government,” Johnson said.

So, Chuck Schumer is responsible for Mike Johnson sending the House home where a) Republican Reps will have to hide from their voters and b) Republican Reps will not be able to pass more performative, stupid, loathsome, or cruel legislation?

Good job, Chuck! You finally got something right!

  12. Our government is being held hostage to protect pedophiles.

  13. And to avoid a vote on the Epstein files. Release the files!

  14. He doesn’t understand that the Democrats are graciously offering him a lifeline for his party by agreeing to extending those healthcare tax credits that mostly HIS constituency relies on.

  15. Republicans are afraid to go back to their districts and face angry constituents. Democrats should flood at risk districts holding town hall meetings 4 times a day addressing issue like health care, tariffs and inflation and the Epstein files.

  16. Johnson cancels House votes next week to avoid swearing in a newly elected member.

In completely unrelated news, that member is the final signature needed to released Epstein files.

  17. So the party in control of voting on bills is canceling the vote to blame the party not in control? Said party not in control is being told there will be no negotiations to fairly represent their constituents as best they can with what very little leverage they have? Bold strategy. Dems better not blink, GOP already owns this shutdown.

  18. Lol they did it next week because the following week the US military will miss a paycheck. Trump knows it’s bad news for a dictator when the troops stop getting paid.

  19. Don’t forget why he’s doing this.

He doesn’t want to sweat in the break elected congresswoman.

That would give them the votes to release the Epstein files

  20. He’s not pressuring Senate Democrats to do anything. He’s delaying the release of the Epstein Files by delaying in the swearing in of Congresswoman Grijalva.

  21. If the Republicans are this hellbent on forcing the Democrats to accept their “clean” bill, then you can be DAMN SURE they are NOT going to bring up the ACA extension legislation to negotiate on.

No, keep it shut down till they actually negotiate.
That’s the only leverage the dems have and at this point it SHOULD be the hill to die on.

The dems messaging simply needs to be:

“The Party in Power refuses to negotiate, they are trying to force this bill that they wrote through without any democrat input, so they are not getting our votes till they actually come to the table and negotiate.”

  22. Those Epstein files must be really bad. At this point, I would bet money that Trump is in those files and that he is in fact a pedophile.

  23. They can’t approve farmer bailouts with the government closed

    Fuck em

  24. Anything to avoid swearing in the new democratic representative that will vote to release the Epstein files.

  25. >Johnson cancels House votes next week, pressuring Senate Democrats

How exactly does Johnson refusing to do his job put pressure on the Senate minority?

  26. He is avoiding swearing in the newest Democratic representative so she can’t vote to release the Epstein files.

  27. The only argument they are making is that Democrats are shutting down the government to give healthcare to illegal immigrants, which makes no sense. It’s a complete fabrication, and simply just a response other than silence. They say nothing about their position on the healthcare subsidies. The sad truth is that, in the very base state of politics these days, they “can’t lose.” They are not making a case for ending the healthcare subsidies because there is no good reason to end them. But if they were to allow the subsidies to continue, and allow the government to reopen, this would be a “win” for Democrats, which they cannot abide. It’s not about what’s best for the country; it’s about winning. That’s all Trump has ever cared about, and he has crafted the Republican Party in his bloated, rotting image.

  28. In other words, Johnson has signaled he is not at all willing to compromise. Time to blast that far and wide and make sure *everyone* knows.

  29. It’s always someone else’s fault with these fuckers

  30. Mike doesn’t want to vote on the release of the Epstein files. Period. Johnson does not want to swear in Congresswoman Grijalva, which was scheduled for Oct 7th, the same day there will be even more Epstein survivors in D.C. Everyone knows Trump is guilty, and I am appalled that the Republicans in Congress are letting him get away with his despicable crimes.

Republicans can use the filibuster any time they want.

  31. Just a reminder, Congress is still in session, despite the shutdown. Johnson still has the power and authority (and responsibility) to swear in the duly elected representative from Arizona, and to hold a vote on releasing te Epstein files, regardless of the shutdown. But if he cancels all house votes, he doesn’t have to.

Keep your eye on the ball.
