Can you? How? Never seen any indication. Interesting.
What’s the view at the top like? I always see people up there from my office, which is taller, and i can’t imagine being able to see much.
A lot of stair, right?
Hope you got your certificate!
And there’s only one set, so you have to squeeze passed people on your way up and down,.fun!
Kinda looks like a jet engine
That’s a great picture.
It’s actually a telescope, interestingly, that’s why the centre is open. The top flips up and there’s a big lens inside the gold thing that sends a beam of light right down to a laboratory in the basement, just under the ticket office.
I had to carry my 4yr old down those stairs. The joys of elder sibling in primary school learning about the Great Fire of London, and the teacher enthusiastically encouraging the kids to visit the Monument. I wasn’t allowed to freak out and refuse to go down them for some reason.
Reckon teachers are sadists sometimes.
For a second in thought this was a jet engine
Anyone else triggered by the fact this isn’t central?
I went up twice… it’s actually a nice view despite all the new builds…and definitely a good workout
You have to appreciate a downward spiral. Excellent.
Did you know it was designed as a secret astronomy tower not just as the obvious monument to the great fire.
A turbine of eninge plane
I feel for the staff who have to climb every day
Does anyone else have a fear of this type of staircase? I had a panic attack on one in St Peter’s in Rome, and had to force myself to go down slowly, holding up a lot of tourists. Even in Rochester Castle I have issues.
A big nope. Looks like My own personal nightmare or a Hieronymus Bosch painting
Why can I hear the Dr Who theme?
I think it’s a great fairly unknown thing to do in London. However the second time I tried I couldn’t get outside. Completely froze while children ran past me 😂
