We heard from several countries what their stance is regarding the upcoming 70th Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna (Austria), but we have not heard from Belgium yet. Their participation is still under wraps.

The Flemish or the Walloons?

Last year, the Flemish-speaking part of Belgium, also known as Flanders, chose the Eurovision contestant for Belgium, which was Red Sebastian with the song “Strobe Lights”. Unfortunately this did not end well, since Belgium stranded in the First Semi-final on the second-to-last place (out of 15 contestants).

This year the French/German-speaking part of Belgium, Wallonia, will choose a representative, but the French-language public broadcaster of Belgium, RTBF, remains silent about a participation. Just like many other broadcasters all over Europe, and beyond, Belgium is waiting for more news about the participation of Israel in Eurovision 2026.

Loïc Nottet

In an article at the beginning of August this year there was suggested that Loïc Nottet, who represented Belgium (French part) in 2015, and ended in fourth position (of 27) in the Grand Final, was internally chosen by the RTBF to represent Belgium again in the 2026 edition of the contest. The same Belgian broadcaster denied these rumours later in August.

No news

Apart from the information above there is no news concerning the Belgian participation in Eurovision 2026. Now that the European Broadcasting Union has decided that there will be a vote among the 68 member countries of the union in November 2025 regarding the participation of Israel, we do not expect any news to surface before the vote has been done.

Eurovision 2026

The 70th jubilee edition of the Eurovision Song Contest will take place on 12, 14, and 16 May 2026 in the Wiener Stadthalle venue in Vienna, Austria. At the beginning of October 2025, there are 24 countries that have officially stated that they will participate in the 2026 contest.
