Pride and excitement among spectators at road cycling world championships in Rwanda • FRANCE 24
Now, Rwanda sports fans are basking in the afterglow of a job well done in the wake of the road cycling world championships which were held in the Rwanda capital. It was the first time the event was ever held in Africa. Our correspondent Juliet Monty was there. The cycling world championships in Kegali are over. I’m here at the convention center where the finish line stood for an event that electrified global cycling but also took Ronda’s reputation in the sport upper gear and as you can see everything is already being dismantled. Ronda pulled it off hosting the very first of these championships held in Africa. Athletes have said that they were very impressed by the flawless organization. The atmosphere was pretty lively despite a slow start. Even the weather played along. It’s a huge source of pride for Randans. Many say they’re thrilled to have seen the world’s top riders in action. This week was so exciting cuz we had to to this championship and we’re so proud of Randa to be one of the country chosen to represent this championship. It’s very symbolic since it’s the first African country and seeing how the organizers prepared, they organized everything well, it was very good. I had a very good week. It was when a Canadian won the women’s championship. Following his triumph on Sunday, world champion Tade Pogacha was effusive about the welcome he received here in Kgali. It was incredible and uh yeah we had a lot of lot of support and uh it was just uh an amazing uh whole day an amazing uh whole week and an amazing experience and uh yeah I was uh yeah really yeah happy to to have so much support. Now, beyond the event’s relevance to sport, it was also a massive communication opportunity for Rwanda. An estimated 300 million viewers tuned in worldwide. It was a chance to showcase Kegali and the modernity of its infrastructure. But the race for development is still on for the country, even if it is often held up as an example of a so-called economic miracle. Despite huge progress over the last couple of decades, poverty remains a huge hurdle, particularly in rural areas.
After seven days, the cycling Road World Championships came to an end on Sunday in the Rwandan capital. These championships were the first ever to be held in Africa, more than a century after the competition was created. Details by FRANCE 24 correspondent in Kigali, Juliette Montilly.

Why is the lady reporting from Rwanda sounding as if she is intimidated by Rwandas succes?Rural development has been a priority in Rwanda for the last 3 decades.
Of course Rwanda is a very organized country, with well developed infrastructure ! Why add that despite the succes in all areas of development that "poverty remains a huge huddle especially in rural areas"
Now once this young lady is also banned from attending the next big thing in Rwanda cause surely there is; they will cry freedom of speech and attack on journalism
Stick to the topic today it's UCI let's save the poverty rates and percentages for another Broadcast🙄🚮
I knew it. They always have the last part 😂😂
"Despite what… poverty remains a huge huddle" even developed countries have poverty ratings..Nosense old woman

shame on you!!!!! adding poverty statement to such an amazing story shows how petty and shallow minded y'all are
