  1. >new proposals will end the party for good.

    *Party membership triples*

I gave up trying to predict voting intentions.

  2. Labour will probably want to leave the ECHR as well if it judges that the recent Supreme Court ruling on trans rights is unlawful.

  3. And these are the rights they REALLY want to take away from us! Being British we’ll tut – only audibly this time!

  4. Pretty sure with a few months of work, the English press could make leaving the ECHR the most popular policy in England since “bring back the dealth penalty for nonces”.

  5. # “end the party for good”

We’ve heard this before, you will never end the Tory party, too much wealth involved. It might be reduced to a rich people protest party but after causing how much damage?

  6. Queue stupid people supporting their own rights being stripped because they hate certain demographics

  7. But will they stop the boats though? Because there’s boats all over the place in Paisley, can’t move for them. Guy down the street has one in his driveway and it upset me because he must have more money than I do. Then I saw a little one in Barshaw Park pond the other day and I was absolutely apoplectic. “Who put this boat in here!?” I shouted, “it’s upsetting the swans!!!!!!” Stopping boats has to be a priority over things like food and electricity.

  8. I wonder if, in order to out right wing the right wingers, Labour will end up supporting this.

  9. Trying to work out why leaving the European Court for Human Rights would lead to higher food prices?
Is this like Farages claim that Brexit would put £300M back into the NHS?

  10. I know Polly Toynbee has a Guardian column to fill, but even the slightest look at this shows it’s an extraordinarily weak point being made.

There is a good argument for the ECHR. This, on the other hand, boils down to a Cambridge academic saying getting out of it would make it more difficult to find agreement on changing regulations on cross-border animal and plant trade, with a little bit attached on the Good Friday Agreement (which I think actually misrepresents the said academic to a degree).

Weirdly enough, despite suggesting this would be devastating for business (how isn’t made entirely clear), Ms Toynbee can’t find a single business figure or organisation to say anything about it. Although apparently “you’d expect” them to, which is almost the same thing. Almost.

  11. If the Tories and Reform want to leave the ECHR, you can be sure Labour is going to steal their homework.

  12. I’m tired, like really tired of all this bullshit. Just what do we do to fight against it. The leaders ignore what we want. Protest? What has that done for trans rights? Unless ye’r informed ye never know there were any, give the media love to ignore. Hell i have to wonder if there’s been any for the safety act and I’m just not in the know.
80% of the UK could audible be against this idea but they’d give no fucks.
Reform are gaining power despite the USA flashing in bright neo lights, don’t fall for it.
WHAT THE FUCK CAN WE DO, WHAT THE FUCK CAN I DO? I’m a disabled autistic with stunted knowledge regard politics because I was raised in a bloody cult. I want to do something but no idea what I can do, especially since our leaders give no fucks

  13. Let me be absolutely clear on my stance. We should not leave the ECHR. It shouldn’t even be a discussion for many reasons.

Having said that I’m not sure what this article is trying to do. Three quarters of it is about how Brexit screwed us then when we get to the point of the article it doesn’t actually explain how leaving the ECHR will do any of the things that are claimed. Where does ECHR even touch trade?

If we want to stop these clowns shaping public opinion on ECHR then they need to spell out the rights we as people will loose and what that will mean. Half arsed attempts to equate it to Brexit are pointless. Where are these articles? The only time I see the ECHR mentioned is when it’s used in what is seen to be a negative way. Removing ECHR gives whatever government is in power the opportunity to rewrite all our basic human rights and I don’t trust a single one of them with that.

  14. Why would leaving the ECHR effect food prices ? Isnt it primary legislation regarding human rights not fresh produce?

  15. And this is why there’s growing support for independence among the Millenial and younger generations. Just a pity the country couldn’t see shit like this coming from these bastards.

  16. Might as well promise a Narnia connected Wardrobe for every house, its as likely as a Tory election win.

  17. I’m pretty sure the majority of the country already voted in favour of this when they voted to leave the EU. They expected this but never got it, hence the feeling that brexit was a sham and the UK is still part of the EU in all but name.
