  1. Spain – the peak of hyporacy when it comes to dealing with autocratic regimes.

  2. I don’t really understand why they want to buy weapons anyways, even if it was for “deterrence” then they would still be better off giving the money to someone committed to defending them at a fair price.

  3. Spain? The brave defenders of global human rights???? Say it ain’t so!

Oh well, Sanchez can easily turn a blind eye to Erdogan’s fascist police state regime.

  4. Extremely doubtful lol, and is that even a credible media ? i see ai generated picture on that website, it is not positive at all, with no source too, and i found a lot of those ai generated websites that said x country bought x plane, when it’s totally wrong.

edit : ok there is a source and it seems economista is a serious website ? Still those rumors are not serious at all with all the shortcomings that buying KAAN for a country like Spain imply.

  5. I thought the KAAN had trouble with its engine coming from US

  6. That seems…unlikely in the extreme. Spain never cancelled F-35, they haven’t ordered any. If they decide they want a 5th Gen though I can’t really see any chance of them picking KAAN.

  7. Spain, the bastion of morality, cancels purchases from the US, only to buy from a country which actively has territory of another EU member under illegal military occupation.

Well done to the moral regime!

  8. Well if true then RIP FCAS

But also, how are there gonna be export KAANs when they cant produce domestic ones since the engine supplier pulled out?

  9. In Spain we say “you’ve been PSOE’d” and I think that’s beautiful.

  10. Spain never even had a contract lol. What a dumb headline

  11. Oh look, sanchez virtuesignalling a terrible decision once more.

  12. why do all fighters look the same nowadays?

thought that WAS the F-35 in that picture.

chinese J-35 also looks identical. so does the korean KF-21.
    SU-57 looks simular.

  13. That’s going be a long wait. Those birds aren’t off the ground like that.. Engines.. Production.. The f35 is still the best option out there.

But Spain is a sovereign country. Hopefully things come together for the GCAP program. I read that there was issues already between partners.

  14. This could be just a desperate attempt to put some pressure on germany and france so they their shit together and focus on FCAS

  15. So far there has been absolutely nothing about this in any credible Spanish media.

  16. Spain has chosen Türkiye’s Hürjet over American’s T-7 and South Korean’s T-50 because TR’s extensive customization offers.

Türkiye is planning to compete with other 5th generation programs in the same way; by allowing their customers to customize their aircrafts according to their needs, allowing them to use their own avionics, mission computers, sensors etc.

This tactic has perfectly worked and made Türkiye one of the biggest drone exporters. Many countries had to beg to the US and they were expected to meet numerous unacceptable requirements to just buy an American drone. Now, the only thing they need to do is just ask from Türkiye.

Also, having an experienced partner in aviation industry such as Spain would be quite beneficial for Türkiye. Local production in Spain would speed up the delivery process and allow Türkiye to focus on Turkish Air Force’s needs.

  17. Why would you buy jets from a country that is negotiating to buy the f35 themselves. Clearly proves that f35 is better

  18. I wonder which aircraft would win in combat – this hypothetical on the horizon aircraft from turkey has some slick marketing.

Anything to say f u to good ole USA.

  19. Good news When Turkish engineers were building Hürjet, some Europeans were laughing. As a result, today no one can laugh because a very good aircraft has emerged from scratch. The same will happen with Kaan; in this way, alternatives will increase, especially against the American monopoly.

Those who don’t want to buy from France, the U.S., China, or Russia will buy from the Turks. In this way, while we make our money, the Germans can try to claim as much moral superiority over us as they want while we gain profit

  20. For a European country is anything better than some Fighters will kill-switches. F-35s have them for sure. The US as we know it never would sell you anything complex without a backdoor!

  21. A serious question – given the rapid advances in drone warfare are conventional aircraft worth the investment any longer?

  22. The comments here can be summarized in 2.

    1) This is insufficiently cited, and

    2) This is a dumb idea.

Notably absent is anybody who thinks this is a good idea. It’s obvious Europe needs self-sufficiency.

  23. Calling the Kaan a fifth gen fighter is laughable. They’re gonna be waiting almost a decade before Turkey actually brings out a 5th gen model.

  24. Getting a lot of “Turkey’s drone program will be a failure” vibes from the comments on here. Well, time will tell if the average reddit commenter is wrong (again)

  25. like they cant find chinese, european or russian engines lol
