5. People hate on Bill and I think it’s sometimes a bit undeserved. He is smarmy, and wealthy now and he did have lunch with Trump or something which was just a bad look all around – but he is well read and has been facilitating conversations about politics for 30 years. I haven’t watched in years but I used to enjoy his show and even though it’s lost me a little bit I don’t hate the guy as much as everyone else on reddit seems to.

6. The issue isnt making money.

   The issue is taxes.

   But the rich want to frame it about making money because they are soulless individuals.

   Rage bait generates the most engagement. That’s why companies spend money on bots that incite negative sentiment. 

8. He’s not wrong. People in the real world don’t seem nearly as angry and hateful as the one’s on the internet.

    Bringing technology to the masses has allowed the dumb and ignorant among us to think they are way smarter than they are.

11. I think Bill gets a lot of hate from the left because he points out things they do which lead to unnecessary election losses.

    He’s wrong about a lot of things, but I’m glad the has a place in late night as opposed to another Colbert or Seth Meyers.

23. Where the fuck has he been? Where was this before the election? Instead of whining about wokeness he could have been warning about the real threat.

24. I mean it is fact at this point. Algorithms used by most bigger social media businesses are no longer primarily used what they once were intended for, socialization. Sure it exists in varying forms and there are some genuine social oriented platforms. But the big public ones are for using media to generate negative emotions that drive engagement and scrolling that generates ad revenue and manipulating people into spending money or to act/think certain ways.

    That is why algorithms need to be regulated for public good. You don’t need to silence free speech, it can remain. But you need to ban spoon feeding dangerous manipulative content to people that leads to dangerous places. If you want it go seek it out it’s still there. But there shouldn’t be an algorithm endlessly feeding that and only that content you like to you or giving preference to ragebait and such things. And I know people will say “it’s inconvenient” or whatever. But if you were early internet days you really are fine without it and it’s actually healthy to teach people how to research things themselves, they socialize in a healthy way more to find good content, and you have to actually consider sources and not just take what pops up on your feed and go with that.
