  1. Wouldn’t call ANO right wing and Pirati centre-left

  2. So Czech politics are just right wing parties? That’s odd.

  3. I was hoping Babiš and Okamura would manage to suck the few percent from motoristé as well as stačilo. But keeping at least one of them under 5% is a success.

  4. doesnt matter, is the ANO Party pro or anit europe

  5. Another Orban-Fico like EU populist country in the club

  6. Didn’t realize the Visegrad countries were so eager to support Russian-backed candidates. Would have been nice to have known that.

  7. We’re one step closer to being Swiss-cheesed by Putinist populists, and it’s all due to social media algorithm brainwashing. When a sufficient amount of Western resolve has been destroyed, we will see a full-scale Russian invasion – World War 3.

  8. Sorry, but calling ANO right-wing party is an insult to all real right-wing parties all around Europe. The party is hard to define on the usual political map, but it’s something between far-right and far-left. It’s politics have aspects of both of these extremes and hardly anything in between. That’s why they were able to get votes of people who would be otherwise voted for left-wing parties in the coalition Stačilo!, but mostly Communists. The only real right-wing parties on Czech political spectrum are ODS and TOP09, both parts of Spolu coalition alongside more center positioned KDU-ČSL. So, please, OP, for the sake of not spreading fake news, change the description of ANO in the picture to far-right, which is what this party is nowadays, even though it has some far-left politics.

  9. Democracy is powerless against the sheer stupidity of the crowd, controlled through the social media. We are doomed, guys.

  10. How is ANO right-wing? You can literally only label it as populist.

  11. I wish ANO would not get this many votes but this is not as bad as it seems, this victory is a poisoned apple as Babiš won’t be able to govern by himself, SPD will likely not agree to get into government as they will finally have to put their money where their mouth is and fail miserably (I would love to see it though), also Motoristy will most likely make a coalition with ANO and thus have a governmental coalition of 93 seats when you need 101 for a majority, so at the mercy of the rest of parliament.

This is on top of the multiple scandals and trials that have plagued Babiš in the last years causing him to age physically and mentally. Plus, he has only one ideology: make money for himself, and this makes him predictable and blackmailable.

So all in all I am not overly concerned with the results of this election. The big danger was having Stacilo, a batshit crazy “communist” pro-Russia party get into parliament, but they did not reach the 5% mark thankfully.

  12. Just to give people outside of Czech Republic an idea. ANO is led by a populist, who won’t go into a coalition with SPD, but is willing to go with Motoristé. Pirates, Spolu and Stan won’t work with ANO…

So in the sense of a working government, it’s a bit of a deadlock. More of a road to a dysfunctional one. ANO can go with Motoristé and negotiate some support from SPD, to get the vote of confidence. That runs the risk of not really being able to do much afterwards tho, since SPD is a Russia backed party that would like to see us leave EU and NATO, something ANO has no interest in, since Babiš (leader of ANO) loves to get subsidies.

  13. Czech guy here.

FWIW, it could have ended much, much worse…

  14. Probably the strangest political spectrum labeling I have seen. Check your sources please

  15. Literally what do Czechs have to be populist about. The country and everyone in it is significantly richer than 20 years ago, there are barely no immigrants, it is clean, extremely safe, prosperous. Are you guys just bored?

  16. “Democracy basically means government by the people, of the people, for the people… But the people are retarded”

  17. Europe is at the mercy of uneducated masses who live in an alternate reality created by social media billionaires.

Add to that the fact that a continuously increasing percentage of the electoral body are pensioners.

Very little can be done about the 2nd, but the 1st is a problem with solutions, and we adamantly refuse to even try.

This cannot go on, we will end up with right wing authoritarian populists everywhere if the social media problem is not addressed…

  18. To borrow a phrase from Chernobyl: “Not great, not terrible.”

    – ANO winning the most seats: Expected by everyone. The fact they can’t form a government alone is a +.

    – Governing coalition parties weakening: Expected, but the fact they weakened so little is a +, even if painful.

    – SPD making it in: Expected, but the fact they got so few seats, and those seats are split among the tiny fringe parties they dragged along, is an absolute ++.

    – Motorist Party making it in: Unexpected, and their strong showing is a -.

    – ANO + SPD + Motorist Party not having a constitutional majority: +++

    – !Stačilo failing to enter parliament: ++++

    – !Stačilo receiving ~23M CZK in election funding but borrowing 30M CZK for their campaign, using the former Communist Party headquarters as collateral: Chef’s kiss to top it all off.

Now comes the negotiation phase. Let’s see how ANO shifts its rhetoric now that it can afford to ignore protest voters.

  19. And people ask why Putin didn’t accept Trump’s very pro Russian peace deal. This is why.
Ukraine basically lost the Czech ammo initiative with this, and they will definitely feel it. A lot more Ukrainians will die because of it.
Next year, Ukraine will lose one of its major allies in the EU, France.
Putin has to somehow survive this decade, because by 2030 Ukraine will basically have no allies in Europe. Germany will be AfD ruled by then, and Farage will be PM in the UK.

We’ll see if we will regret these choices or not.
