Not really, but Trump will force sales to utilities
I’m sure it’s all just performance art for the benefit of ‘MAGA owning the libs’.
Nobody wants coal anymore.
It makes a nice ground cover.
Good question.
It would be hilarious if no one buys new coal leases.
Trump will then pivot to allowing other commercial developments in the land to try and destroy it anyways.
If they could only discover coal on his Virginia golf course, dig it all up, nobody buy it and he get no royalty’s
Coal is an expensive form of energy. It’s not clear who is willing to pay for it when energy is a commodity.
No one wants coal the dirtiest form of energy on the planet… the United States is going backwards not forwards …
Be funny if the coal industry dried
up like the soybean market did
My guess: This could throw the entire supply system out of equilibrium. Coal fueled systems are just too expensive to run. Anybody who picks up a lease and starts mining will be facing oversupplying a shrinking market. That will crash the price in a race to the bottom. Nobody gets rich, but maybe you slow down the loss of coal plants for a short while and buy yourself some time to beg for government handouts from your rich overlords. Good luck.
Gas is the enemy of coal,
and batteries are the enemy of gas.
The existing coal-fired power plants are aging. At some point it’s just not economical to keep an aging plant running and it will get shut down and replaced. Looking at the costs of replacement options, that replacement being a new coal plant seems really unlikely. It’s even more unlikely when you consider the risk of future CO2 capture requirements. As long as gas stays cheap not much chance of a coal plant being built.
Cole is currently the most expensive fuel for generating electricity, both environmentally and BTU wise cradle to grave. That fossil fuel industry really does have him by the short and curlies.
Trump will take all that coal and give everybody one piece in their stockings for Christmas. That friggin grinch.
Coal has a demand problem, not a supply problem. More supply will make it hasten it demise.
Elect clowns , expect a circus.
Good report. It may be that Wyoming coal will take market share from other Western mines on the map, or from other states, like West Virginia, Kentucky, and Indiana supplying Eastern plants.
The Wyoming coal is landlocked for now, limiting exports.
The article states Peabody’s dream that the existing plants will approach year around operation, beyond their scheduled maintenance outages. But their energy price would have to be much cheaper, equal to natural gas, which is impossible. Peabody is not a financially stable company.
If only there was a new technology that existed that used free energy from the sun?
Only MAGA
Next there will be subsidies. After selling coal at a loss…
But don’t worry.
MAGA Republicans are the party of fiscal responsibility!
Maybe a touch of sarcasm… Just a bit…
👌🏻
Gina?
Can we turn coal into solar panels somehow? If not, all I can think of are the black stains on buildings from when coal plants were spewing that crap everywhere.
China has been by far the largest consumer of coal and they are fast moving to renewables because it’s a foreign dependency. Trump is going to sink the price of coal and run all these businesses into the ground or just give them massive welfare handouts because his policy runs them into the ground.
