Trump: Ceasefire to take immediate effect once Hamas agrees to Israeli withdrawal proposal
Donald Trump has released another statement on Truth Social, suggesting that a ceasefire and release of the hostages is imminent – pending Hamas’ approval of a proposed plan for Israel’s partial withdrawal from Gaza.
“After negotiations, Israel has agreed to the initial withdrawal line, which we have shown to, and shared with, Hamas,” Trump writes.
“When Hamas confirms, the Ceasefire will be IMMEDIATELY effective, the Hostages and Prisoner Exchange will begin, and we will create the conditions for the next phase of withdrawal, which will bring us close to the end of this 3,000 YEAR CATASTROPHE.
“Thank you for your attention to this matter and, STAY TUNED!”
The withdrawal that Trump refers to the third point of his peace plan – you can navigate to the full outline via the key points at the top of the page.
The plan foresees that:
A partial Israeli withdrawal will facilitate the release of the hostages.During this time, all military operations are to be suspended until conditions for a complete withdrawal are met.All hostages are to be returned “within 72 hours of Israel publicly accepting this agreement” (point 4).
Netanyahu said in a televised address this evening that he believes all hostages will be returned during the Feast of the Tabernacles, which lasts from 6 October to 13 October.
Meanwhile, Trump pressured Hamas earlier to “move quickly” on implementing his peace plan, “or else, all bets will be off” – see our post at 4.27pm.
