Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, met with Abang Yusuf, Senior Vice President for liquefied natural gas (LNG) Assets at Malaysia’s Petronas, to discuss strengthening their partnership in natural gas, focusing on the company’s investments and collaboration with Shell in the West Delta Deep Marine (WDDM) fields and the Idku LNG complex.

The meeting reviewed cooperation areas and joint projects, aiming to enhance energy efficiency, operational capacity, and maximize existing infrastructure to add value and support emissions reduction.

Badawi praised Petronas’ role and expressed hope for increased investments in natural gas exploration, given the promising opportunities in Egypt.

Abang Yusuf highlighted Petronas’ confidence in Egypt’s investment climate and described the partnership with Egypt’s petroleum sector as foundational to their operations in the West Delta Deep Marine (WDDM) fields in the Mediterranean. Both sides agreed to maintain close coordination to optimize economic and operational outcomes.

In related developments, Burullus Gas Company, operator of WDDM, has recently brought two new offshore wells online in August, producing 60 million cubic feet per day (mmcf/d) of natural gas as part of the Phase 11 development plan of WDDM.
