Trump’s hatred for renewables means the US is falling behind the rest of the world. As well as embracing ‘beautiful coal’, Trump has set about obliterating clean energy projects. From China’s perspective, the race to shape energy, and thereby the trajectory of this century, may already be over.

1. Why the huge uptick in these posts on the same subject?

   Seems contrary to the goal of this sub. Or is that just me?

   I’m Canadian, BTW, looking in from an energy positive & exporting country.

2. Trump will go down in history as the man who destroyed the American-led Western world, splintering it, all to simply enrich himself.

3. Trump can’t stop the growth of renewables. Coal has become uncompetitive in the market place. Plenty of red states are profiting off renewable energy (most notably Texas).

4. He doesn’t believe in science, and he wants to own the libs.

6. Renewables are simply not cost effective. In many markets anything “renewable” or that deals with circularity comes at a steep premium which many are not willing to pay.

   China is not ahead on this – many of their chemical plants use bituminous coal to fuel their process while The United States uses cleaner Natural Gas.

   Furthermore, lower carbon plants in Europe are being shut down en masse because they can’t compete with Asian alternatives that undercut the market.

   Economics don’t favor this business unless the government heavily subsidizes, which it’s clear they don’t want to.

   Edit: Downvote all you want, look up Chinas “Coal to Olefins” process which is the most carbon intensive in the world. If you read this as me being against renewable energy you should look in the mirror – I fully support it but without legislative support the industry can’t develop.

   Overall spending: The oil and gas industry spent about $219 million to influence the 2024 election, including contributions to candidates and outside spending groups.

   Split between parties: Of the $219 million spent, an overwhelming majority—88%—went to Republican candidates and conservative groups. In contrast, Democrats and liberal groups received less than 12%.

13. It is a disaster, but the impact will be pushed off somewhat by all the utilities scrambling to get solar installed before the tax credits go away.

14. Sooner rather than later prices for green energy companies have been pushed to the bottom and the Oligarchs can take over. Then the shift in policy towards renewable in Trumps policy will come.
