MALTA, NY (WRGB) — A Plattsburgh woman faces grand larceny and conspiracy charges after an incident Oct. 2 in Malta.
The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office responded to an active larceny call Oct. 2, at 2:18 p.m. at the Market 32 on Kendall Way. Investigation into the complaint led the arrest of Evyan D. Chaskey, 40, for grand larceny in the 4th degree (class E felony), petit larceny and conspiracy in the 5th degree (class A misdemeanors).

Chaskey is accused of stealing a credit card and U.S. currency from a pocketbook that was reportedly taken from a shopping cart in the parking lot of the store by an alleged male accomplice. She is also charged with agreeing with another person to commit a felony. Chaskey was taken into custody by the New York State Police in Plattsburgh and later released on appearance tickets at the direction of the Honorable Ellwood A. Sloat Jr. of the Malta Town Court pending further proceedings.
According to the sheriff’s office, her alleged accomplice, Seth L. Church, 31, of Ausable Forks, was incarcerated at the Clinton County Jail on a warrant for separate charges and an arrest warrant for the current incident was filed with them. The charges filed against Chaskey are not qualifying offenses for the purpose of setting bail under New York state law.
