A proposed list of new rules for pedicab drivers in London has been released by Transport for London (TfL), after a public consultation showed “overwhelming support” for regulation of the industry, it said.
TfL said the new rules, if approved, would protect customers from “extortionate over-charging” and “remove dangerous, unsafe vehicles from the streets”.
The London Pedicab Welfare Association (LPWA) previously said it welcomed regulations, so long as they were fair.
The rules, now subject to a second consultation period, include criminal record checks for drivers, and fares to be based on journey time.

Edit – for the avoidance of any doubt they should be properly regulated IMHO and they would be fine, drivers licenced and insured, fares set and capped, music off or at a level for the passengers only and what’s the issue

  2. How does this work. Can anyone just start what amounts to a taxi business randomly picking people up.

  3. They are robbers sometimes charging hundreds of pound for rotten music and the bike ride from hell they should be band

  4. I always wonder if they would make more money if they just lowered their prices and then there was a bigger demand? They could be handy and maybe a bit of fun that even locals would use. I always hope the best for the tourists I see in the back of these which is very rare that I see them being used

  5. Leicester Square and the surrounding areas is an absolute joke.

  6. It’s not just loud music they now have rubber ducky sounds they play and squeek at tourists as if they are animals/dogs and the worst part… the tourists go towards them. I always say out loud if I see them “what a tourist trap bet he charges £300 for 20 minutes.”

  7. I don’t understand how this is a scam. People pay to get driven around in the little bikes and they get driven around in the little bikes.

  8. That’s the beauty of unregulated immigration, we know who they are and where they’re from, why is health and safety not being deployed or will they play the race card

  9. Remember those hot dog stands everywhere with the bottles of piss stored under the hot plate? They were a scourge on the streets until the council clamped down and crushed them. Do the same with these. Consign them to the dustbin of history

  10. I want to know the mindset of someone who would approach one of these people.
What are they thinking and why?

If you get on one of these you probably deserve what happens next.

  11. Ban this travesty. Its a shame to see q great city bastardised

  12. Piccadilly? Looks like the corner of Shaftesbury avenue and Charing cross road.

  13. I mean positioning outside HP&TCC makes this functionally a tax on stupidity

    It may well learn em

  14. At 4am they drive around asking everyone if they want a hooker. *I know this because I used to work nights in Soho FYI and was getting the bus home at that time. There is a different Soho that only opens between the hours of 3 and 6.

  15. As a visitor of your beautiful city, I also found them annoying and they kinda ruin the London vibe. I need to feel like I’m in London…

  16. Tourist traps yes, should be banned yes, unsafe for both pedestrians and regular cyclists. Not a scam though, they do what you pay them to do, just tourist traps and scummy but not scammy really

  17. I love how it looks like they’re barricading that stupid Harry Potter show

  18. Don’t care so long as they get rid of them, they are hideous and they clog up and are downright unsafe not to mention annoying in the bike lanes.

  19. How have we banned free coca cola refills before these monstrosities?
