  1. I’m sure people don’t want to see The Rock in movies anymore. Something unlikeable about him

  2. Damn she beat the Rock up at the box office
    Dammmmnnnnnnn

  3. Damn this actually bums me out. A24 put a ton into this and the movie is reportedly quite good. Lame that they’re gonna take such a heavy loss on it.

  4. I don’t care for Taylor but I would rather see whatever she put out vs. the “look how different the rock looks in makeup and prosthetics” Oscar bait.

  5. The Smashing Machine is the most boring sports movie I have ever seen. Almost nothing happens. It’s like a live action Wikipedia page.

  6. it’s a shame because the rock actually had a pretty good performance in the movie

  7. Trump and MAGA will still call Taylor Swift failing no talent low ratings disaster.!

  8. Sucks that even if the movie is good, the general feeling is that the Rock made himself unlikeable to the point that people straight up don’t want to see him in a movie

John Cena and Dave Bautista were humble coming into the industry and were accepted with much appreciation

  9. Maybe Johnson should transfer his career to Saudi Arabia.

  10. I wouldn’t personally go see the smashing machine. I completely can’t stand the UFC and I also can’t stand the rock in movies. This whole “he’s doing a serious movie” thing feels like a marketing/oscar-bait gimmick at best

  11. The projections started at 8 million lol.

The dumping on of stuff that had no shot at being a hit in the first place is stupid.

The only reason it made 6 million was because of Johnson and he didn’t make it to compete financially with Jumanji or something.

  12. From the trailers it just feels like Generic Combat Sports Movie No. 643. *A film! About a fighter! Who’s good at fighting! But struggles in his personal life! And has to overcome those struggles!*

  13. The biopic is on Mark Kerr, who is alive and just 3 years older than Johnson. I bet it was Johnson’s idea, who then produced and cast himself in the movie. A younger and better actor was needed here.

  14. Walking tall was his best film, he should go back to making those types of movies

  15. Ever since Black Adam, I’ve completely given up on the guy. Not the attitude or behavior I want so I’m not going to support it.

  16. NPR’s Friday edition (10/3) of Pop Culture Happy Hour has done a comprehensive breakdown and critique of The Smashing Machine. 10/10 recommended listening to the episode for more information and sharing of insights.

  17. Time for Rocky boy to go to Riyadh Movie Festival and win some awards there because no one here gives a shit about him anymore

  18. The problem with Dwayne Johnson for me is he is just so fake. You have no idea who he is. Every interview, appearance or clip is so cookie cutter and obviously staged and rehearsed over and over. He has a team that says “stay away from this” and “stay away from that.” Hes an old AIM bot that’s got 10-20 responses for any given question.

I loved “The Rock” as a wrestler. He didn’t have a brand back then. He didn’t have almost a billion dollars to hold onto. He currently wants to appeal to every demographic and because of that he is turning a lot of people off.

  19. That is why he has lost all the weight, for a New Movie that doesn’t require a Muscle Bound Guy beating people up

  20. The Rock was hoping for his first Oscar like JLo playing a stripper. Then he woke up and saw the box office numbers.

  21. Come on guys the rock lost so much weight but stopping steroids you’re supposed to love him now

  22. Lol, Wikipedia lists the plot as “The Rock smashes things like a machine.”

  23. I feel like part of the problem here is that the Rock, an athlete who grew to fame from obscurity through hard work and dedication, is playing an athlete who grew to some small amount of fame through hard work and dedication.

I guess what I’m saying is it’s weird for a more successful fighter/athlete to do the bio pic of a less famous and less successful person.

It’s like having Oprah play a tv/radio personality who didn’t make the big time. What would be the point?

    Just my $.02.

  24. The Smashing Machine shouldn’t have cost $50 mil to make.

  25. The documentary Smashing Machine is fantastic and a must watch. The movie looks okay but I have no interest is catching it as again, the original documentary is perfect.

As a ProWrestling and movie fan, and in an older demographic, I have no interest in the Rock’s movies as everything he touches turns out worse than before. His movies are mid. His wrestling creative is mid.

  26. Good; I’ll never forgive the rock for what he did to the DC Universe

  27. Honestly I thought it was very bold to do a movie about an early MMA fighter who made most of his career in Japan.

As a wrestling fan I loved Iron Claw from A24.

Honestly MMA particularly modern UFC has a toxic culture. When I think of early days of MMA I think Shamrock, Severen, the Gracie’s.

Until I heard that it was a good A24 movie I had 0 interest.

  28. Hope this is the end of the rock. Really tired of the guy.

  29. The Wikipedia entry for the smashing machine “the rock smashing things like a machine”

  30. Taylor swift could release a film of herself faking a shit and it would break records

  31. At this point Taylor Swift could release a CD of her dragging her nails across a blackboard and an accompanying movie and it would be a roaring success.

  32. Honestly I am ready for his hiatus. This should usher that in.

  33. So if i want a good mma film, just watch Warrior again got it.

  34. My wife and I might be one of the few people that watch both the Taylor Swift release movie and Smashing machine.

Last night we had time to kill so we went to see Smashing Machine. It was ok, kinda boring if you’re not into wrestling. My wife fell asleep.

Afterwards my wife, who’s a big Swiftie and I snuck into the Taylor Swift movie. There were only 5 other people besides us. Her music video was actually really amazing and it made me like the song a whole lot more (I’d listened to it previously and thought it was just ok). I definitely don’t get the appeal of watching lyric videos in a theater (perhaps with a bigger crowd it would be more fun), but my wife loved it.

  35. David Bautista >>>>>> Dwayne Johnson

Can’t be a fake dude and expect to be box office viagra forever

  36. A movie about an MMA fighter? He thought that was money in the bank? Stop. Stop trying to go for an Oscar. Nobody gives a shit. Get muscles, strap on a gun and kick some fucking asses. People want a bad ass, like the Rock, and they want to see shit explode. A drama?

  37. I go the movies regularly And never saw one trailer for the smashing machine…
