Some kids from Chicago are hoping to meet the Pope next week.
You may remember these kids from a Good News story we did this past spring about the mock conclave they held inside their classroom.
Well, those kids are going to Rome, on a class trip to the Vatican.
In May, the college of cardinals weren’t the only ones convening for a conclave. Some 4th graders in Pope Leo’s hometown had a conclave of their own, ending with a vote for a new Pope.
It was quite the experience for the kids at Chicago’s Our Lady of Mount Carmel Academy.
“And it’s kind of hard to focus on learning when you’re going to a different country the next week,” said fifth-grade student Augie Wilk.
“We actually might meet the Pope, which is so out of this world,” said fifth grader Cameron Smith.
Before their trip, they had some special guests visit their classroom – Pope Leo’s brother and an Augustine priest spent time with the kids this week.
The students will attend a general audience with Pope Leo XIV in St Peters Square, and they will be dressed to impress in the robes they wore for their mock conclave.
