Amazon has announced it will be hiring for 600 seasonal positions across Ottawa’s four locations starting in October.

The move is part of a hiring blitz, with the company stating it plans to hire 7,000 seasonal employees across the country.

Positions will be located at Amazon’s fulfilment and sortation centres, as well as delivery stations.

Hiring will occur in waves until December for roles such as stowing, packing, sorting, or shipping out orders to customers.

“At Amazon, we’re committed to creating a workplace where employees feel valued and have opportunities to grow,” Chuck Cummings, Director of Customer Fulfilment at Amazon Canada, said in a press release. “By creating thousands of new seasonal roles and investing in compensation and workplace benefits, we’re providing meaningful employment opportunities that can lead to long-term careers at Amazon.”

The company says it expects roles to fill up fast so those interest should periodically check its hiring page.

Employee perks

Amazon also announced its intention to better support its employees across Canada. It says it is investing $110 million toward pay increases for eligible employees.

This includes a pay increase of 4.3 per cent over last year, with jobs starting at $24.50 per hour. The company says new employees can also expect a pay increase every six months for the first 24 months.

The wage increase is set to go hand-in-hand with free Prime memberships for eligible employees and existing workplace benefits for full-time employees.

“We’re proud to offer competitive pay, comprehensive benefits from day one, and a supportive environment where everyone can thrive,” Cummings said.

The full details on the seasonal job openings, along with where to apply and to sign up for job alerts, can be found on Amazon’s hiring page.
