Well that’s what happens when you can’t get a dentist. I have to go private and thank god I’m lucky enough that I was 1) able to get a space and 2) don’t need to go enough for it to cost a lot of money.
Dentists need to be forced to do 50%+ of their work for the NHS, don’t comply, no licence for you.
Honestly, when you look into it you can understand why theres a crisis.
There needs to be some kind of reform to NHS dentistry, even if its higher prices per band, its surely better than private prices which many people are now having to pay.
Even if you literally increased them by 50-100% it is going to be cheaper than private practice.
What are private prices like there? Here in the US a typical cleaning is $90 without any insurance or subsidy. Dental X-rays are roughly $80-$110 depending on the technology used. Preventative visits are typically relatively inexpensive. Granted orthodontia is expensive and so is oral surgery.
I paid for a private dentist for my kids. They didn’t get an NHS dentist until they were 6/5/2.
We were told by the private dentist to help them brush their teeth until they are 7 or can do joined up hand writing. My mother in law scoffs at this when we help them but her kids needed a filling by this age so
So yeah get your kids to clean their teeth properly (they had someone come into their school and nursery to teach them good teeth brushing as well) but we need better dentistry in the country also.
The only crisis is stingy Brits refuse to pay for Dental services at the market rate.
NHS Dentists can often make a loss on NHS services, so why should they do it? Just more examples of Brits being ‘I deserve free elf cayre’ junkies
This is another cost of having a Tory government that people are still struggling to realise was entirely preventable. Pre Covid, the Tories chose to let NHS dental contracts expire with no plans to increase them. Most dentists stopped being able to see NHS patients but the population still needs them and is increasing – also a problem related to Tory decisions.
Covid delayed the real impact hitting as most dentistry was put on hold to protect lives but then we’ve now had people without treatment for years on massive waiting lists.
A good diet and brushing your teeth isn’t enough to prevent needing dental work. Multiple dental issues are related to genetics, others are related to things like how antidepressants demineralise the teeth and multiple medications cause dry mouth which is one of the biggest risks for causing damage to your teeth and why drug addicts end up with bad teeth.
The answer to this problem will now cost more than if it was just done properly in the first place. It is the Tory Tax on society.
Shitty parents who can’t look after kids is the real issue.
My parents thought me to brush my teeth and use mouth wash and my teeth are all fine and still there. Letting your child get to a point of needing to go to hospital for teeth work sounds like a parent problem
My dentist wanted to charge me £480 for a single filling.
The price is madness, its no wonder that everyone teeth are starting to fall apart.
Not surprised, had to go private and so far have paid in excess of £2500 for 4 fillings and 1 implant. Won’t be going again for another 10 years it’s bankrupted me
im amazed you can find a ‘private dentist’ not a single one up here is taking new patients , even private 🙁
