Morocco squashes youth-led protesters over health and education • FRANCE 24 English

Freedom, dignity, social justice, the chance of young Moroccan protesters in the streets of Rabbat as the Moroccan government allocates finances to co-hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup. These youngsters are calling for a reform of the education system and improved healthcare. Young people are demanding schools and hospitals. What they’re asking for isn’t impossible. These are necessities. How can the authorities not understand this? Where’s the government in all of this? Young people have demands that are vital for Morocco, like hospitals and schools. We don’t want football or anything else. If football had been good for us, we’d have had the World Cup long ago. We want help. Our parents are suffering. The protests were called by a collective called Gen Zed True 12. It was initially in response to the unexplained deaths of eight pregnant women who had been admitted for cesarian sections at a Nagadier hospital in early September. The protests in a country where demonstrations are rare were quickly put down by the authorities for the third day running on Monday. Dozens of protesters were arrested drawing the condemnation of Moroccan human rights organizations and opposition parties. Help.

A heavy security presence on Monday evening thwarted for a straight third day youth-led protests across several Moroccan cities, where demonstrators have sought to rally for improvements to the public health and education systems. Story by Oliver Farry and Sophie Samaille.

  1. young Moroccans are protesting because of the collapse of health and education, 6 women died in just one week at Hassan II Hospital in Agadir, and even a newborn with spina bifida was left months without surgery. Meanwhile, billions are spent on stadiums for the 2030 World Cup instead of saving lives.

  2. Sad fact :Morocco ranked 154 of 214 globally In the education index, 94 of 99 in health and 14% of population unemployed and a huge regional gap

    It's a typical 3rd world country

  3. It's mind boggling!! How a country can build a huge football stadium for the world cup before hospitals and making education better??????

  4. and you know whats the worst thing about this, the old people are against this, no not the higher ups, not the police, not the people of the system, normal people who lived in oppression they wish everyone else will.

  5. I am a hungry Moroccan. I haven’t eaten for days. I want you to help me with anything, a loaf of bread, anything. I will die of hunger. They cut off our water and electricity. We will die.

  6. The government is not the only one. what about the parents that decided to have too many kids hoping one of them immigrated to Europe or US to send money back?
