Hi from Czechia! Which beer should I try when I am in Lithuania? Especially drafted ones. In my city we have in grocery store special beers from Volfas Engelmann of Kaunas and I like them. While I like lager like Pilsner, I like wheat and honey ones too, in general I like more to try beverages and meals in smaller amounts.

Also I like kvass / gira, especially drafted one (I had it in Ukraine and Latvia). Where is good one (both bottled and drafted)? Is it non-alcoholic (for people who are abstinents)?

Thank you for hints!

  1. If you’re in Vilnius do try Alaus Biblioteka, Nisha, Špunka (Etmonų, or any other). They have a bigger variety of beers. I heard Šnekutis is good with the food and drinks. I heard good things about Alaus Kolonėlė too.

As for canned beer do try Dundulis, Kuro Aparatūra.

And for gira, I recommend getting it with some traditional food in places. In Vilnius I recommend Bernelių Užeiga, Žemaičių Ąsotis, plenty of other places, you just have to ask if they make it themselves. The trash made by Utenos Alus is too sweet and nothing a like a good gira for good taste in good places.
As for alcohol in gira, children drink it, so it’s not normally seen as a source of alcohol, but it has traces of it. If it’s made naturally, it might have a low alcohol content. The factory made ones should have even smaller amounts of alcohol.

  2. Šnekorių beer is one of my faves, the dark kind in particular. I’ve only had it as draft, but you can find bottles in shops. I’m not sure how common it is in bars in Vilnius if you’re going there, but I’m sure you can find it. It’s reminds me of gira a little bit. Delicious.
