    >Senior Tories say Priti Patel was always banking on never having to implement her cruel plan to send asylum seekers to Rwanda.
    >
    >They claim the Home Secretary hoped it would become so bogged down in legal challenges she would never have to get it off the ground and it would be quietly forgotten.
    >
    >And they say it was only ever intended as a vote sweetening announcement for next month’s local elections.
    >
    >One ex-minister told the Sunday Mirror: “This nasty idea has served its purpose – which was to throw some red meat to former UKIP voters.
    >
    >“We know we’ll take a hammering at the polls over partygate. This was designed to limit the damage.”
    >
    >Another Tory MP said: “Priti will now be able to blame left-wing lawyers for scuppering this. I know there are those in the Home Office who think that was the plan all along.”
    >
    >Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper added: “This just shows how cynical the Tories are.
    >
    >“Instead of a serious plan to tackle the criminal gangs, they are chasing headlines by announcing unworkable and incredibly costly policies.”

    >
    >Patel travelled to the Rwandan capital of Kigali to sign a deal meaning asylum seekers to the UK deemed to have arrived illegally will be taken to the African country.
    >
    >But journalists from several national newspapers were excluded from the trip and not given any detailed briefing on the policy.
    >
    >The Guardian accused the Home Office of trying to “avoid public scrutiny” and suggested there was a pattern of government departments blocking individual journalists – including its home affairs editor Rajeev Syal. …

  2. Rwanda was banking on this too likely. £120 million just to agree to something that will likely never go through. Not bad on their part.

  3. makes sense that it isn’t really feasible. Hard to imagine to transfer around 30.000 refugees every year to Rwanda and pay for everything.

If it doesn’t work as a deterrent, i think you would have to admit that your bluff has been called at one point.

  4. So was her plan to send them to Ascension Island the same? Her Rwanda plan is not much different to that after all.

  5. I wonder how many people have actually read the Memorandum of Understanding between the UK and Rwanda.

There is one interesting part, which the media have not mentioned.

**16 Resettlement of vulnerable Refugees16.1 The Participants will make arrangements for the United Kingdom to resettle a portion of Rwanda’s most vulnerable refugees in the United Kingdom, recognising both Participants’ commitment towards providing better international protection for refugees.**

That’s right – Priti Patel has agreed to the UK taking refugees from Rwanda !

  6. Priti isn’t stupid is she. She knew that blagging it for the last 4 years on a jingoism card would work and boy did she get away with it!

It’s worked wonders as a distraction for Boris, and it’s emboldened the wetherspoons crew to ignore reality

She’s done nothing except waste taxpayers purse time with countless debates on an already known illegal practice, and she’s further entrenched the nutters in this country to be more racist by her insisting it can be done. Plot twist: it just can’t

    Slow clap Priti.

  7. Google What Australia has been doing for the last 10yrs locking asylum

seekers up on Pacific Islands .Paying that country billions. then Australian Companies go in to provide “Services” Govt pays them billion s who foots the bill .TAXPAYERS..I bet Rwanda was very excited by the plan. Oh and it Violated Human Rights but hey !
