‘Woeful scarcity’: NHS psychiatrist decries lack of mental health beds | Mental health

  1. Lack of mental health anything to be honest. Millions pumped in, nothing of any substance coming back out. Mental health services in the UK are just a low level cash grab and many suffer because of it.

  2. Unless you have raging psychosis they will turn you away from A+E, I was told I have the “capacity” to kill myself if I wanted to and it was my choice to kill myself if I wanted to. Kind of missing the point that I’d gone to speak to them for help to stop me killing myself because I felt I couldn’t keep myself safe anymore. They said it in the coldest nastiest way too, literally shrugging her shoulders as she said it.

They said this to me and then asked me what I planned on doing when I got home, when I told the lady from the crisis team that I was probably going to kill myself if I was left alone for the night she accused me of making “conditional threats” and walked out of the room. The police picked me up a few hours later after someone saw me walking on the train tracks and sectioned me. I’m grateful now that they did because I wouldn’t be here to tell the tale otherwise.

My advice if you go speak to one of these “professionals” is to bring someone (anyone) so you have a witness in the (very likely) event this happens to you. I understand the enormous pressure they are under for beds but the lack of compassion I do not understand or forgive.

  3. I don’t see why people would trust the NHS to provide subpar care, let alone the bare minimum of care. Everytime I’ve reached out for help with these cocksuckers, I’ve ended up worse off. Even telling them about my first actual attempt to end my life isn’t a concern for them.

And now GPs want to reduce their opening hours! Good luck seeing a GP now (which I would not recommend for anyone dealing with mental health problems, based on my own experience).
