President Donald Trump on Saturday, Oct. 4, twice posted images of protests in Tel-Aviv, where tens of thousands of Israeli demonstrators rallied to pressure Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to thwart the Trump-backed peace deal that could lead to the return of hostages and end the bloodshed in Gaza.
Trump’s Truth Social posts came amid reports of continued Israeli strikes on Hamas targets during the two days after Trump called on Israel to “immediately stop the bombing of Gaza” and clear the way for the release of hostages. Trump made that call in response to Hamas announcing its agreement with key elements of his 20-point peace plan, which Netanyahu agreed to after the U.S. hammered out the deal with Arab nations.

In tandem with the protest in Tel-Aviv, according to the Jerusalem Post, families of Israeli hostages still held by Hamas “warned that Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir will try to sabotage the deal.”
A report on the rally from the Times of Israel showed a demonstrator holding a sign that read: “President Trump please don’t let Benjamin Netanyahu thwart your great hostage deal.”
In another report, The Times of Israel noted Gaza residents said Saturday that Israeli attacks had “intensified rather than slackened as promised.”
“The civil defense agency rescue force says there were several attacks through the night,” the report added. “It claims that nearly 60 people were killed in Israeli strikes yesterday, including 40 in Gaza City alone.”
Ruby Chen, the father of the late 19-year-old Israeli-U.S. dual citizen Itay Chen, supports the peace deal and has put pressure on Netanyahu to abide by it. Itay Chen was murdered by Hamas militants after being taken captive on Oct. 7, 2023.
“We went to sleep yesterday with cautious optimism after many months of deadlock,” the elder Chen stated Saturday, according to the New York Post. “Now it is on PM Netanyahu to show the same conviction to provide the Israeli negotiation team with a mandate to seal the deal.”
Chen had also posted the day before: “Agree with [Trump] that Israel should stop bombing Gaza to create the infrastructure to release the hostages safely.”
The left-leaning outlet Axios reported over the weekend that Trump and Netanyahu have not been seeing eye-to-eye about Hamas’ response to the peace plan.
As reported in The Times of Israel, Axios reported that a U.S. official said a conversation between Trump and Netanyahu “shortly after Hamas announced that it had submitted its response” to the deal became “combative” when Netanyahu argued the terrorist group’s statement should be seen as a “rejection” of the plan. “‘I don’t know why you’re always so ******* negative,’ responded Trump, per the official. ‘This is a win. Take it.’”
On Sunday, Trump posted on social media a New York Times report about how mounting “fury” against Netanyahu over Israel’s recent strike in Qatar is now limiting his options in Gaza.

“The brazen Israeli attack failed to kill its targets,” the Times article posted by Trump read in part. “But it motivated an angry Mr. Trump and his advisers to pressure Mr. Netanyahu into supporting a framework for ending the war, after months in which the president appeared to have given the Israeli leader a free pass to continue assaulting Hamas even as the death toll and suffering among Palestinian civilians rose to levels that left Israel increasingly isolated.”
