Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway has spoken out about her health battles, after the Norwegian Palace announced that she would be out of the public eye for a month to focus on recovery. The Princess made an appearance recently at the Norwegian Folk Museum and, during the visit, confirmed that she would be taking some time off from regular engagements to concentrate on herself.
‘I should have done it a long time ago, but now is the time,’ the Princess, who is married to heir apparent Crown Prince Haakon, told HOLA! magazine. ‘So I’m going to do it. Because I need a little more help than before to cope with daily life with pulmonary fibrosis.’ Crown Princess Mette-Marit, 52, was diagnosed with the condition – which causes shortness of breath, fatigue and a cough – in 2018 and, in March this year, the Palace confirmed that her illness had progressed.
The Crown Princess has daily symptoms and ailments that affect her ability to perform her duties,’ read a statement from the Palace at the time. ‘The Crown Princess needs more rest, and her daily routine changes more quickly than before. This means that changes to her official schedule may occur more frequently, and at shorter notice than we are used to. The Crown Princess has a strong desire to continue working, and therefore we will organise her official program in the future in the best possible way so that her health and work can be combined.’
Most recently, the Palace announced that the Princess would be taking an extended leave of absence in order to fully focus on her health. ‘Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mette-Marit will undergo a month of pulmonary rehabilitation in Norway from the beginning of October,’ read the statement. ‘The Crown Princess will therefore not carry out official assignments in October, but some exceptions are planned, such as the dinner for the representatives of the Storting at the Royal Palace on October 23. The Crown Princess is scheduled to resume her official work in November.’
When HOLA! asked what Mette-Marit hoped to achieve from this period of rest and rehabilitation, she said: ‘I think it’s about meeting other people who suffer from the same lung disease as me. And having better control over how I'll cope with my daily life with this chronic illness.’
In October 2018, the Princess revealed she had been diagnosed with a rare form of pulmonary fibrosis, an incurable disease that causes scarring of the lungs. At the time, the royal released a statement saying that the condition ‘meant her working capacity would vary’ to accommodate treatment. ‘For a number of years, I have had health challenges on a regular basis, and now we know more about what is involved,’ she said.

Awwnn…..will she also speak about her son being a serial rapist and abuser who recorded women unconscious while he assaulted them or the girlfriends he physically hit and she ignored their mom’s when they reached out to her.

I have no empathy for her.

Just don’t look at her rapist son.
She needs to speak about how she covered up her son’s crimes.
But she says nothing about her serial rapist son. The Norwegian royal family is a tragic mess. I hope his victims get justice.
Pulmonary fibrosis isn’t something you usually recover from. Unless she’s getting a long transplant, but that takes more than a month to recover from.
Saying she’s going to take a month of rest and rehabilitation feels a bit like she’s trying to distract from something going on.
