Serbia arrests 11 accused of stirring Jewish-Muslim hate in France, Germany • FRANCE 24 English
This cell phone video captures a man leaving a severed pig’s head just outside a mosque in Paris. It’s one of nine mosques that were targeted in and around the French capital earlier this month. France has Europe’s largest Muslim population and eating pork is forbidden by Islam. And at the time, French police said the pig heads had been placed there by foreign nationals who immediately left the country. 11 suspects have now been arrested in Serbia who are also accused of vandalizing Jewish sites in Paris defacing several synagogues with green paint last May as well as the Holocaust memorial in the fourth Eron Dism. Their goal was also to spread ideas that advocate and incite hatred, discrimination and violence based on differences in the personal characteristics of certain groups of people. The French Interior Ministry says the 11 suspects are all Serbian and were trained in Serbia by an additional suspect known by the initials MG, who was acting on the instructions of a foreign intelligence service. It did not say which intelligence service it suspected, but France has accused Russia of trying to sew discord in the past. French police already arrested three Serbian nationals in connection with the defacing of the synagogues and the Holocaust memorial in May, who are also said to have links to a foreign power.
Serbian police have arrested 11 people over hate-motivated acts in France and Germany, including defacing Jewish sites and placing pigs’ heads near mosques, authorities said Monday. A twelfth suspect, “currently on the run”, is accused of training the group nationals on “the instructions of a foreign intelligence service”, the Interior Ministry said in a statement, without specifying their nationality.
