At the risk of starting another aimless & toxic debate, this is the crux of the issue for me. 'The Small boats problem' is realistically a tiny issue, especially for us here in Scotland. There are bigger things afoot, let's not waste the time we have demonising vunerable foreigners!

  1. What on earth do these things have in common?

US internal state politics have nothing to do with UK immigration policy.

  2. If you look at how “small boats” is used, it’s pretty obvious that for those who are railing against them they serve as a symbol for all seekers of asylum, and even for all legal (non-white) migrants, both recent and historical.

  3. The boat issue was created by brexit, it was then amplified by the tories who decided to hamstring processing applications and creating a nice payment scheme for their friends/donors failing hotels.

Instead of ID cards labour could have setup a proper departmet to verify and check peoples eligability to work and investigate anyone doing silly hours or reporting income from a town/city that they don’t live near but a digital ID could serve more purposes down the line, nefarious and legitimate.

  4. All one big distraction tactic while we’re turned into the 51st state.

  5. Why do people care about the things they care about instead of the things I care about?

  6. You obviously don’t live somewhere that’s affected by it. I live on the south coast of England and am often the minority when walking down the street. It’s noticeable how quick the change has been in just a few years. Things are always going to change but over a long period and organically. This is quite the opposite and you can’t blame people for feeling unsettled by it.
