Novotel, the renowned midscale brand from Accor, today announced the opening of Novotel Malta Sliema, its first property in Malta. Located in the vibrant coastal town of Gżira on the north-eastern coast of the island, the 293-room newly built hotel is one of the tallest hotels on the island, with panoramic views of Valletta and the Mediterranean.

Novotel Malta Sliema offers a blend of comfort, connectivity and contemporary design. Guests can enjoy a rooftop infinity pool and jacuzzi, indoor heated pool, full-service spa and fitness centre. The hotel features a Mediterranean restaurant, a lobby bar, and a rooftop pool bar. In addition, it offers six flexible meeting rooms for up to 200 guests.
Founded in 1967, Novotel pioneered the concept of affordable comfort, catering to families and business travellers with quality hotel innovations. Novotel has since evolved into a globally recognised brand over 600 hotels in 60+ countries, with an additional 180+ addresses in the pipeline. Other recent brand additions in Europe include hotels in Valencia, Paris and the upcoming opening in Zagreb, the first Novotel in Croatia.
Cristina De Oliveira-Frewen Chief Operating Officer Franchise Operations Europe & North Africa, Premium, Midscale & Economy at Accor, said: “Malta is a destination rich in culture and connectivity. Novotel’s expansion into Malta and across Europe reflects our commitment to bringing balanced, experience-led hospitality to key markets. Novotel Malta Sliema is a prime example of how we integrate modern design, wellbeing and strategic location to serve both business and leisure travellers.”
Ideally located near the Sliema promenade and ferry terminal, the hotel is in walking distance of shopping, dining and entertainment hubs in Sliema and Ta’ Xbiex and offers easy access to the capital Valletta and Malta International Airport. With multilingual staff, accessible facilities, and a focus on wellness as well as business travel, Novotel Malta Sliema is set to become a new landmark for the island.
Novotel Malta Sliema will be managed by ST Group, a leading Maltese hotel operator under a franchised agreement with Accor.
Ivan Borg Ferrando Cluster General Manager at ST Group added: “The opening of Novotel Malta Sliema marks a significant milestone for the hospitality offering in Malta, and we are proud to collaborate with Accor to welcome the brand to this incredibly exciting destination for the very first time. Novotel is a champion for balanced living, for family, friends and business travellers and we look forward to bringing the brand to life here in Malta.”
Following a longstanding commitment to support its guests’ pursuit of balance in their lives, last year Novotel announced a three-year agreement with the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF) to champion the protection and restoration of the world’s oceans, the greatest source of balance for the planet, through science-based action and conservation projects. Novotel has built a three-year Positive Impact Plan, a science-based action plan, rooted in three of the United Nations’ priority ocean-related actions, namely: reducing marine pollution and ocean acidification, particularly from land-based activities; fighting overfishing and promoting sustainable fishing models; and increasing scientific knowledge and research for ocean health.
