  4. Interesting how you can sort of see the Black belt in the south where the most common war is the war on terror

    I’d assume the counties where the most common vet is from the Korean War just has very few vets

  5. Should I assume “War on Terror” includes US forays into Iraq and Afghanistan post 9/11? If so, this shows in stark contrast the impact of drafted versus volunteer armed forces.

    Edit: Based on counties I am familiar with, I would say urban vs. rural and/or socioeconomic factors may also be a driving factor.

  7. missing wars:

    – war on drugs
    – war on terror
    – war on poor
    – war on education

    all of these would just paint the map entirely
