How many tri-shaw riders do we have? Can we not do something about limiting those fuckers down to zero instead please??????
What about the number of food delivery drivers on L plates? They are a menace.
and it still took me 25minutes to get an uber.
wow, i remember in 2016 when there was 25000
Better solution would be to implement a “professional driver test” and improve the standard of driving for all who drive as a service.
It is shocking how much labour will be freed up when full self driving becomes a thing. In the future big infrastructure projects and cheaper housing should be a thing again when more and more people move towards construction.
> Ms Baker repeated the Committee’s calls for a cap on private hire licenses and said they “cannot see the reasoning behind continuing to resist this call, which has wide support across taxi and private hire drivers”.
Of course a group of suppliers wants to restrict new suppliers competing in the same market. It lets them charge people more.
Furthermore, she thinks having fewer service providers means they’ll work fewer hours and thus reduce fatigue? Why? Getting paid more will motivate them to work more.
Ms Baker wants to hurt citizens and masquerades it as protection. Quite likely by completely misunderstanding how market competition works. A British politics classic.
Oh no “too much competition” is driving down fares! Something must be done!
Continue pedestrianising and remove being able to cut through certain areas and limit all motor vehicles that way. I dont care how many vehicles there are as long as they’re not given as much space and priority almost everywhere like currently.
Why the need to protect black cabs though? They are nowhere near as convenient as Uber or even traditional minicabs. I rarely see them where I live so how am I supposed to hail them if I need to go out urgently? Black cabs are only good if you work in the city. Otherwise I really don’t see the point of them these days.
>causing “extreme competition for fares”
Oh no, not competition taking place in a market.
I really miss minicabs you could just get from a shop in any high street…
It’s funny how everyone in London is left-wing pro-worker until it comes to how much they want to pay for a taxi. Then suddenly they are in favour of existing taxi drivers being replaced by people willing to work 10 hours a day, 6 days a week, for a low wage and no job security, with an American multinational taking most of the money, because “market forces”.
What happened to free market economy?
I much prefer Ubers as black cabs are just awful now.
Arrived into Kings cross late and couldn’t be bothered to walk or wait 25 mins for a bus to arrive so I tried getting a cab to Angel. The driver said no ask the cab behind, then the driver behind came and started arguing with him.
At this point I just walked away and got an Uber
Got an Uber yesterday afternoon from Hammersmith to the top of North London and was just under £30..the quote for the black cabs was 75-100
It’s a while since I saw the data, so it’s possible things have changed, but when I last looked into it, a big advantage of black cabs over traditional minicabs was that they were orders of magnitude safer in terms of offences by drivers against passengers. Uber, however, was safer still, and I can imagine that the incentives that apply to Uber drivers also apply to drivers for big outfits like Addison Lee.

“Protecting black cabs”: no thank you.

Remember, TfL sets Black Cab fares: [https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/taxis-and-minicabs/taxi-fares/tariffs](https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/taxis-and-minicabs/taxi-fares/tariffs)
