Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has declared that Ukraine will become a member of the European Union regardless of the position of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

Zelensky made these comments during a press conference with Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof, the Telegraph reports.

He expressed confidence that the Hungarian people support Ukraine in any case.

“Ukraine will be in the European Union, with or without Orbán, because this is the choice of the Ukrainian people,” Zelensky stressed.

The Ukrainian president commented on the possibility of changing the rules of procedure so as not to require a unanimous decision on EU enlargement.

“Changing the procedure means finding a way without Hungary. When the majority, all countries except Hungary, support Ukraine, they understand how it should be done,” he said.

Zelensky also recalled that Ukraine had met all technical requirements for opening the first group in EU accession negotiations. /Telegraph
