  1. They don’t tend to give the award to those who are begging for it.

  2. Ham fisted is a very good term to describe this administration and their own wacky flavour of diplomacy.

Mafia-esque, 80s power ties, pedophilic island retreats – they’ve got it all!

He’s given American awards to repugnant and hateful people (Rush Limbaugh is a classic example) and his name associated with the Nobel prize cheapens and demeans it by association.

The guy has apparently won the World Cup, or at least stolen it.

Even considering him for this prize is a slap in the face of human decency- which is exactly why he is pursuing it.

It’s the same instinct that makes him a multiple rapist.

I sincerely hope this goes nowhere, because it can’t go anywhere positive.

  3. I mean if he can solve the Congo conflict or the Sudan crisis then he absolutely deserve one. Both of these have conflicts have taken million of lives

  4. What I hope has been happening behind the scenes is that living laureates have been coordinating to make it known to the Committee that, if Trump receives it, they will publicly return/disavow their own awards.

Giving Trump the Nobel Peace Prize would amongst other things be a massive hostage to fortune, in that his term has three years left to run, and god knows what chaos he may cause as he sinks further into rage, cognitive decline and fear of consequences if he leaves power. Imagine if they’d given Hitler the NPP in 1936 on the calculation that maybe it would mitigate his future behaviour. The Prize would no longer exist.

It’s also worth adding that in a few weeks this whole discussion might be moot, because Trump has absolutely been played by Netanyahu. By backing Netanyahu unequivocally to do “whatever he needs to do” should Hamas reject what’s almost certainly an unacceptable (to them) ultimatum, he’s put himself and the US on the hook for whatever Israel does next in Gaza. And the images are likely to be horrendous.

  5. It will be interesting as a test case: can you coerce your way to Nobel Peace Prize? In theory it should be impossible as a matter of principle but the way Europe acted over the tariffs and his other threats you unfortunately cant rule it out. It would be such a travesty but we seem to be in that sort of timeline.

  6. “Keep your Grammy’s in your own damn yard!” – Homer Simpson

  7. “I’m really happy for Obama, I’mma let him finish, but Putin had one of the BEST WARS OF ALL TIME!!”

  8. Norwegian here. I’m pretty sure the committee won’t even consider him seriously for this year’s award. But in the unlikely case that his Gaza plan somehow pans out and leads to some kind of half-decent peace, he might well receive it next year. If so, it will be hard to argue he doesn’t deserve it.

(I loathe him, but it’s the results that matter)

Edit: of course, he may well do tons of other stuff that cancels out whatever he accomplishes in the Middle East. The committee will take notice of that too.

  9. They aren’t going to give it to him.

    Not like this.

It would be like giving Oppenheimer the peace prize.

  10. they should pretend to give him one, then dump pigs’ blood on him

  11. If they don’t give it to him he will sue them, introduce tariffs, and if that doesn’t work declare war…

  12. He’s so desperate for recognition from the element of society that has always shunned him. His approach is always materialistic since he can’t fit in by his character.

  13. Politics of the Nobel commitee aside, if so-called Trump’s Gaza plan works – the Nobel should go to MBS.

It’s his strategy that is in play now, it was only shipped to America for final assembly and to get the made in America stamp.

The frequent visits to Riyadh by administration officials since the start of Trump’s 2nd term and the billions in investment in Kushner and Witkoff attest to this – the Saudis are in the game.

Without them – the united front of Arab nations backing Trump would not be possible, even the Qataris realized they can ill afford to not join (for now).

The Saudis want a middle-east that is not constantly on fire and where small groups do not hold hostage the (stability of) regimes – so that they and other Gulf states can build their future on tech like cyber and ai instead of energy alone. For this MBS plans to sign a peace deal and marry Israeli tech to his investment and energy machines. But before this can be done Gaza must be resolved and some form of Palestinian state (or appearance of) needs to be accepted by Israel.

If it works, MBS would be the Kissinger of our time and more than earned his Nobel – though likely he will let Trump collect the laurels and remain behind the scenes.
