A top European Union defense official has revealed that German intelligence agencies have discovered evidence indicating the Kremlin is deliberating potential military strikes against NATO.
Andrius Kubilius, the European Commissioner for Defense and Space, called on the continent to bolster its defenses against Russia, taking cues from Ukraine‘s drone warfare strategies.
In an interview with Polish publication Wyborcza, he delivered a grave warning regarding President Putin’s intentions for Europe, stating: “I trust the secret services. And German intelligence claims it has evidence that the Kremlin is discussing an attack on NATO. And if they’re discussing it, are they planning an attack?”. The news comes as a chilling map shows Russia’s missile ‘targets’ in the UK in WW3 threat.
“We don’t know. But such signals must be taken deadly seriously. They may indeed be ready for war. We must also be ready for it and learn not only from the experiences of the Ukrainians, but also from the Russians.”
The disclosure surfaces during heightened tensions between Russia and Western nations, with Putin and Trump trading insults on Thursday, each labeling NATO and Russia as “paper tigers”, reports the Daily Star.
Putin rejected what he described as fabricated hysteria among NATO members concerning a possible strike on a member state, while highlighting the alliance’s supply of weapons, intelligence and military training to Ukraine. “If anyone still has a desire to compete with us in the military sphere, as we say, feel free, let them try. Russia‘s countermeasures will not be long in coming,” the Russian dictator added.
Prior to Putin’s remarks, Trump addressed a gathering of US generals and admirals, condemning Russia‘s conflict with Ukraine: “You’re four years fighting a war that should have taken a week. Are you a paper tiger?”.
Beyond the war of words, there has been a growing number of breaches into NATO nations’ airspace, the Mirror reports, which some blame on Russia.
Certain analysts believe it could be Moscow probing NATO’s reaction.
On September 10, a fleet of Russian drones penetrated Poland’s airspace, forcing NATO aircraft to rush and intercept while destroying some of the craft.
This event represented the first direct confrontation between NATO and Russia since Putin launched his invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
Days afterward, three Russian military aircraft were guided out of Estonia’s airspace by NATO fighters, while overflights have been documented near airports, defense facilities and vital infrastructure across Europe.
Russia has rejected any deliberate misconduct or participation in the events, with information staying limited as European officials avoid providing comprehensive reports of the drone violations, with some not confirming the flyovers publicly until days afterward.
