There are many among us who are currently following the flickering glow of jack o’lanterns to find all of the fall fun times, which is, of course, a good path to take.
But we’ll be looking for the light, specifically “Urban Light,” to lead us to our next autumn outing.
And that event? It’s a Night Out at LACMA, a pay-nothing, come-and-savor-good-things to-do that will glow, like a vintage street lamp, at the Miracle Mile museum Oct. 8.
That’s a Wednesday night. And, honestly, we could stand to sprinkle more Wednesdays onto our social calendars, which are a little light on merry mid-week possibilities.
Excellent DJ tunes, oh-so-autumn-y aura readings, aura photography, and a host of tempting nibbles, including Santa Canela’s miniature LA-shaped churros are part of the two-hour scene.
And, yes, access to the galleries, where “Tavares Strachan: The Day Tomorrow Began” and other acclaimed exhibits are on view.
And nearby by? Chris Burden’s seminal, shimmerful, super-splendid-ful “Urban Light,” an iconic installation made for whimsical fall photos. Or if you’re not in the picture-taking mood, simply standing among the vintage street lamps is an ethereal act that possesses its own LA-flavored magic.
Entry to a Night Out at LACMA free, as happily mentioned, but don’t just roll up to the art institution Oct. 8 with doing a little pre-work; be sure to RVSP ahead of time, as spots are limited.
Parking will have a fee, if you stow your vehicle at the Pritzker Parking Garage; there’s street parking in the area, too, but of course, as always, do check the signs for what fees are due.
