Phu Quoc is experiencing an extraordinary surge in international tourism, driven largely by travelers from Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, and Kazakhstan. The island’s pristine beaches, lush landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and luxury resorts have made it a top choice for global tourists. Expanded charter flights, improved connectivity, and a return of winter travelers from these countries are fueling the record-breaking influx, while the island’s year-round warm climate and diverse experiences ensure visitors enjoy both relaxation and adventure.

According to tourism authorities in An Giang Province, which encompasses Phu Quoc, the Mekong Delta province welcomed nearly 20 million visitors during the first nine months of 2025. The tourism sector generated revenue of over VND51.87 trillion ($1.96 billion), with Phu Quoc accounting for more than 6.5 million visitors and nearly VND31.14 trillion in earnings. Foreign tourists represented a substantial share, with approximately 1.2 million international travelers arriving on the island, forming 97% of all international arrivals to the province.

The final quarter of 2025 and the 2025–2026 winter season are expected to see further increases in visitor numbers. A key driver of this growth is the return of travelers from Russia and CIS countries, which include Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. Phu Quoc’s tourism operators have collaborated with Russian travel agencies to relaunch direct charter flights, reconnecting the island with markets that were heavily affected by global disruptions in recent years.

Anex Vietnam Co., Ltd. is set to operate over 75 monthly flights from 14 major cities across Russia and the CIS, aiming to bring more than 60,000 visitors during the winter season. The first flight from Russia is scheduled for October 19, marking a significant milestone in the island’s efforts to re-establish itself as a major international destination.

While the Russian and CIS markets are a primary focus, Phu Quoc continues to attract visitors from the Middle East, China, South Korea, and India. Tourists are drawn not only to the island’s natural beauty but also to its rich cultural experiences. Local markets, traditional fishing villages, and fresh seafood cuisine offer visitors an authentic glimpse into the island’s heritage, while luxury resorts provide modern comforts for a complete travel experience.

The island’s landscape is a key attraction, featuring white sandy beaches, turquoise waters, tropical forests, and rolling hills. Activities such as hiking, snorkeling, diving, and eco-tours have grown in popularity, offering tourists diverse experiences beyond conventional beach holidays. Its temperate climate and year-round warm weather further enhance Phu Quoc’s appeal as a destination suitable for any season.

International recognition has further boosted Phu Quoc’s profile. Travel + Leisure recently ranked the island third among the top 10 islands in the Asia-Pacific region, following Bali and Koh Samui. In addition, it has consistently been acknowledged by travel publications for its natural beauty, pristine beaches, and growing luxury tourism sector, drawing attention from global travelers seeking both relaxation and adventure.

Tourism authorities have focused on infrastructure improvements to support the growing number of visitors. Investments in resorts, transportation networks, and sustainable tourism initiatives aim to provide a high-quality experience while protecting the island’s natural environment. Hotels now offer modern facilities alongside eco-friendly practices, catering to a global audience that values both comfort and sustainability.

The combination of expanding international connectivity, increasing recognition, and a wide variety of attractions positions Phu Quoc as a leading destination in Asia. With tourism projected to grow significantly, local businesses in hospitality, dining, and leisure are preparing for a busy season, confident that Phu Quoc’s unique blend of natural beauty, culture, and luxury will continue to captivate travelers.

As Phu Quoc prepares to welcome millions of visitors in late 2025, the island is poised to cement its reputation as one of Asia’s most sought-after travel destinations. Its combination of breathtaking scenery, rich culture, and world-class accommodations ensures that it offers an unforgettable experience for travelers from across the globe.
