Hello!

My wife and I are excited to be spending our Honeymoon in Norway and we can’t wait! We are planning on renting a car in Stavanger and doing a road trip along western Norway with stops for hikes and sightseeing.

One of our first stops will be in Odda for Trolltunga. We will be starting our journey in Stavanger (Monday May 23) and will be spending that night in Odda. After Odda we move in to Bergen to continue our road trip. We are interested in seeing Langfossen Waterfall along the way. We have one day to complete this leg of the trip. Google maps shows two routes:

1) North along E39 with the ferry to Arsvagen. Then east along E134

2) East then North along Route 13, then 513 up through 46 and finally meeting up with E134. This shows a ferry in Hjelmeland.

My question is which is the recommended route from Stavanger to Odda; taking into account sightseeing, length and figuring out ferries? We have all day for the trip so no need to keep certain timeframes. Do we need to book ferries in advance and do both of these ferries run pretty frequently (google search shows the ferry on E39 is about every 15m. I cannot find information on Hjelmeland’s)

Any info helps!

Thank you 🙂

  1. You start by taking the ferry to [Oanes

And then drive to Preikestolen: [Preikestolen

Return to the ferry and take it into Lysefjorden, then you take a right turn, and drive here: [Outdoor Research

You then hike to Kjærag: [Kjerag

After that you drive to Suleskard (research Brokke – Suleskard) [Suleskard

If you have time left, then visit Folgefonna, a glasier, and Rosendal to see the garden.

From Rosendal, you can go to Haugesund and the tunnel back to Stavanger…

  2. If after april – Route 2. Ferry runs all the time, no pre booking needed. I always drive route 1 because my daughter gets car sick but that route is boooring!

  3. If you have time i would take a trip to Karmøy, right outside off Haugesund. There is many things to see here but i would at least visit Skudesneshavn a charming town, narrow roads with tiny beautiful houses.
Then i would visit Åkrastranden which consist of 8 beaches all connected, beautiful place. Definitely worth a google search [Skudesneshavn](https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g668824-d10785048-Reviews-Gamle_Skudeneshavn-Skudeneshavn_Karmoy_Municipality_Rogaland_Western_Norway.html)

  4. If you have good time i would recommend a trip in to Ryfylke as far in to the fjord as you can, followed by a trip over røldalsmountain. It is a breathtaking trip with with narrow and winding road with lots of amazing photo oppertunities. Its my favourite route to take a ride and will recommend it to anyone.

  5. Route 1 is fastest and most safe, but also boring.

For sightseeing I would recommend going via either Sand to Røldal, and then to Odda. The valley from Sand an inward is beautiful! This trip will take 4 hours 9 min.

There is also an option to go via Sauda instead of Sand. After May 17 the mountain pass from Sauda to Røldal should be open (520). Here you can drive through 3 meters of snow plow.
This route is 3 hours 22 min.
