Hey all, so a few months ago ago a costumer came into the store I work in and asked if we could start selling these candies. My boss bought them and he came back and told me how he ate them when he lived in Finland for a while.

Apparently you drop a few of them into a really cheap vodka, put it in the dishwasher to melt it and infuse it with the vodka, then drink it.

I really want to try this cause I love licorice, but don’t know if it’s good or not.

  1. It is a drink and fairly popular shot here. Just google ”salmari” or ”salmiakkikossu” and you’ll fond lots of products. The og way ofc is to make it yourself by putting these candies in booze as much as it can melt them. Just let them melt over the night. If you like the candies you’ll love that.

  2. Salmiakkikossu, Salmari or Salmiakkivodka are made of hard salmiakki candies you let sit in bottle of vodka for days.

If you like salty liqurice, you will love it.

  3. We used to make DIY salmari as students. The better way is to buy a bag of [Tyrkisk Peber](https://www.fazer.fi/tuotteet/tuotemerkit/tyrkisk-peber/), drink a few shots to leave some space in the bottle, then force them into the top.

Once the bottle is full, let them dissolve into the vodka (takes about a day; shake occasionally). These ones also contain some pepper powder in the middle, giving the drink a nice little kick. Once fully dissolved, put the bottle in the freezer to thicken up before drinking.

The Super Salmiakki in your photo aren’t great for making drinks with, being more sticky when chewed/dissolved, and will just make more of a mess. They are great to just eat normally though.

  4. You know you can just melt candies in a small amount of hot water, e.g. in a microwave.

  5. Who tf puts anything they’re planning to drink or eat in the dishwasher? Please stop doing that. Just leave the vodka at room temperature for a couple days or if you’re in a hurry you can melt the candy very carefully in a water bath on the stove the same way you do chocolate and then just pour the created syrup in the vodka. The type that is infused for a few days does blend and taste better imo.
