Schools are closed and residents are being advised to shelter-in-place in an Ontario community as police search for “two armed and dangerous individuals.”
Ontario Provincial Police said they’re working with the Anishinabek Police Service to locate the individuals who are “currently at large” in the area of Ginoogaming First Nation in northern Ontario.
“As a precautionary measure in response to the ongoing police investigation in Ginoogaming First Nation, all public and Catholic elementary and secondary schools in Long Lac and Long Lake #58 First Nation will be closed today, Oct. 8, 2025. Students are advised not to attend school,” OPP said.
“Additionally, the Long Lac Campus of Confederation College will be closed for the day,” OPP added.
Police said the closures are in place “out of caution.”
Police said the individuals they’re looking for are black males, one of whom is taller than the other. The taller individual has braided hair and is wearing an all-grey jogging suit, while the shorter one is wearing black pants and black shoes, OPP said.
“Members of the public are advised to call 9-1-1 immediately if they see the suspects. Do not approach them,” police said.
It’s not clear what exactly prompted the incident or if anyone has been injured.
Members of the public are being advised to remain in a secure location with all windows and doors locked.
“Motorists travelling on Highway 11 near Longlac and Ginoogaming First Nation are advised to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary stops,” police added.
“Individuals not currently in the affected area are asked to avoid travelling to the region until further notice.”
