Here’s the full picture of my nightmare fuse board from my previous post. Look at the state of it.

  1. Could probably do with an update alright (electrician) I’m assuming your renting, the landlords not gonna pony up a few hundred to change that, if tell him it’s a fire hazard

  2. That actually looks like a slightly more modern version of the one we have in the house we just bought…

  3. Fun fact if you were to put Solar panels on that house any excess electricity that you export back to the grid will cause that ESB meter to run backwards. That said ESB networks will change out the old meter within the month. Amazing what they can do when it suits them, no 6 month wait for that job.

  4. Ever since I arrived in Ireland, I’m always shocked (pun intended) on the states of electrical lines/work everywhere. As a person with decade of electrical experience myself, I wonder how whatever authorities we have allow such a practice here. If electrician did this kind of work in Germany (in example), they would have their license rewoked on the spot.

  5. Looks similar to mine. Except mine sparks and pops, and parts of it are melted. And despite an electrician doing a temporary fix and saying “yeh that’s a serious fire hazard and needs to be replaced asap”. That was over a year ago, our landlord refuses to fix it.

  6. Time for the house to be rewired, at the very least a new fuse board. If that’s a stretch, then a battery powered smoke alarm.

  7. My fuse board (1984) is all switch circuit breakers except for one which is one those old school round ones. I always wondered why.

  8. That meter has taken a few turns throughout the years alright.

I remember that old esb tag on my parents meter back in the early 90s before the Esb changed it to a night saver.

  9. Every landlord in the country is looking at that and thinking “there’s nothing wrong with that, and sure, if they all die in an electrical fire i can put the rent up again.”

  10. It’s fairly easy to change that over yourself to a new board and fuses, but you would be better off getting an electrician to do it too be safe if your not to sure. It’s not esbns job to do it by the way. That’s your property etc

  11. I mean apart from the fire hazard from the hole in the top right, you’ve got an RCD in there at least and those older fuses are not as convenient as breakers but should do the job.
