Even this statement existing is indicative of the shifting Overton’s window on immigration and asylum in Europe. The older rules and conventions signed in the mid 20th century may not survive this decade.

Our strongest defense and weapon is the common market: let’s help least developed Countries with EBA agreements for the long term while sanction Countries which do not cooperate like Belarus in the short term.

And as you see in the article, getting EU funds to build a wall while pushing back migrants (the very purpose of the wall) is not allowed. So the EU-funded wall is pointless without reform of our outdated refugee treaties.

It’s interesting how walls and electrified fences with alarms were keeping people inside the Warsaw Pact nations. And as the Soviet Union collapsed, so did the fences.
And now they are will re-appear but on the opposite side, and to keep people out.
The border of life quality has moved east. And so it’s also interesting why and where it’s stopped. China and Singapore have authoritarian leaders too, but at least they are competent.

I mean, if we’re good with spending around €10 billion on Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund [(source)](https://ec.europa.eu/info/funding-tenders/find-funding/eu-funding-programmes/asylum-migration-and-integration-fund_en), we should be good with funding an actual border.
