THE petroleum sector remains the backbone of our economy, according to Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited acting managing director Dr Luke Liria.

“The petroleum sector remains the backbone of our economy, and strong partnerships with both international and local investors are essential to building stability and long-term growth,” he said.

“At the same time, we must embrace the path of energy transition – diversifying our resources, investing in renewables, and ensuring that development is achieved in a way that is sustainable for future generations.”

Liria mentioned this at the 2025 PNG Petroleum and Energy Conference, with the theme “The next 50”.

“This conference is more than a forum for dialogue – it is a statement of confidence in our future,” Liria said.

“It is a demonstration of our ability to attract global partners, to showcase the resilience of our industry, and to commit ourselves to a transition that balances g with sustainability for the benefit of our people.”

The conference is a reflection of the remarkable journey and a forward-looking platform that positions Papua New Guinea at the centre of the global energy conversation.
