Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio during her official visit to the United States from October 8–9.
The two officials emphasized that strengthening their partnership ensures stability in the Black Sea region and is a key factor for European security, according to a statement from the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The discussions focused on the strategic partnership between Romania and the U.S. and opportunities to further expand it. Minister Țoiu highlighted the critical role of the Black Sea region for Euro-Atlantic security and the importance of cooperation in maintaining the stability and defensive capacity of the Eastern flank. Special attention was given to the U.S. military presence in Romania, including the Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base, a strategic pillar for regional defense and deterrence.
The meeting also covered economic cooperation, investments in key sectors, energy projects, and partnerships in high technology, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence. The Visa Waiver program was discussed, with a focus on its benefits for border security and tourism.
Țoiu and Rubio expressed their readiness to enhance bilateral contacts and high-level political cooperation, highlighting the important role of the Romanian community in the U.S. as an active bridge between the two countries. | BGNES
