The proposed rise in US H-1B visa fees is manageable disruption, rather than a macro threat, according to former Reserve Bank of India deputy governor Michael Patra, after the country’s IT sector was left rattled by the imposition of the new visa application charges.
The cost of applying for these skilled foreign worker visas was increased to $100,000 by Donald Trump in September. Previously, the visas had carried administrative costs of around $1,500.
