Polonez, the national dance of Poland, was previously known as the dance of the [Polish] court. Since the beginning of 19th century it is recognized as the oldest national dance, its version being a cultivated by nobility form of dance being present in Polish society for centuries.
Today, it is known for being the opening dance at every ‘studniówka’ (an event at the end of high school, equivalent to American ‘prom’) throughout the country.
It’s worth mentioning that it’s a clip from the movie *Pan Tadeusz* based on the epic poem which was written by Adam Mickiewicz. And it’s my most favorite piece of Polish literature.
This is beautiful! Greetings from Greece!
As someone from german area, who wasn’t aware of the beautiful origins of Polonaise, I am deeply ashamed for what we made out of it.
We also have a Polish settlement in Turkey called “Polonezköy”.
I know that it seems beautiful to lots of you but as Pole,i still have “PTSD” from dancing it at literally every possible school event. It’s unbelievable how much i hate that song. And it’s all because of being forced to dance it.
Is this from the movie Pan Tadeusz?
Edit: I read the comments, yes it is. I remember the movie, loved it.
Polonaise kinda really sucks im glad I could opt out of dancing that shit at studniówka
There is a small village in Turkey called Polonez Köy (literally, Village of Polonez) funded by Prince Adam Jerzy Czartoryski and settled in 1842. It is an interesting part of history I guess.
