Corey Muizelaar, 25, is set to star in the first pantomime at The Roxy in Leadgate since it was reopened following a refurbishment, but before he dons his festive folly costume he is taking part in a mission to deliver aid to Ukraine and documenting it on film.

Producing and starring in ‘Journey to the Frontline: From Sunderland to Kharkiv’, Mr Muizelaar will document a group of volunteers taking aid from the North East to Ukraine as the war with Russia rages on.

“I feel like the war has become stale in people’s minds, some people think it’s finished,” he said.

“But you would not believe the stories I have heard about the brutality.”

The 25-year-old who lives in Sunderland, has worked as an actor up and down the country since graduating from university but has also worked behind the camera and has gained the support of a script advisor for hit shows Adolescence and Brassic, with Carley Armstrong on board as an executive producer for the documentary.

Leaving Sunderland on October 30, Mr Muizelaar and a group of volunteers with Volunteers for Ukraine will head to Kharkiv, a city near the Russian border, to deliver aid to the frontline and is asking for donations from members of the public: https://www.studiomuiz.com/donate.

The team is currently in talks with a ‘major streaming platform’ for distribution of the finished piece.

“I hope it can inspire people to donate or volunteer to help Ukraine,” Mr Muizelaar said.

“It could happen to anyone, just because of where you are born it doesn’t. I hope people can see that these are people with lives, businesses, families.”

Dane Miller, chief executive officer of Volunteers for Ukraine said: “Journey to the Frontline is dedicated to sharing the stories of Ukrainians and the global community rallying behind them.

“VfU is inspired by this mission and stands ready to provide resources that will help capture the true spirit of freedom and resilience.”
